Cricket Special Report: Awards of the Year 2010 (Part II)
So as the big award gets out of the way, let’s move on to the other awards.
Best Brand Ambassador and Best ‘thing’ of 2010
Sachin Tendulkar takes the cake, sorry Kevin Pietersen.
If anything that was good this year, it was Tendulkar’s double century. He smashed a mind blowing 200 off 147 balls against South Africa and became the brand ambassador of Indian Air Force. He was smartly dressed, complete in the Air Force attire as he was
bestowed with an honorary rank by the IAF. His parents were proud enough as their dream of seeing their young boy fly a plane came true.
Kevin Pietersen came very close to winning the coveted award as the brand ambassador of a bumble-bee yellow Lamborghini but he was caught for speeding at the Great Ocean Road in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. Now, that does not make a very good brand ambassador. What will the
kids think? Isn’t Miley Cyrus and Lindsey Lohan enough? Plus, Pietersen only hit a double century in the Test match this year. No big deal.
Shane Warne rounded off the race to win the title as well, for being the best endorser of Twitter- the micro blogging website. But of course, his antics with Elizabeth Hurley did not go well with Arun Nayer, Hurley’s ex-husband. Plus, Warne had retired.
No record breaking action on the field this year.
Best PR
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 made it possible to give the best publicity one can give to its employers. The South African batsman narrated
an autobiography that was very “To the Point.” He gave an honest, open account of how he spent his fourteen years in the national team. He was given the best entertainment possible on tours and he also gave a detailed account about the cliques that are formed
in the team. A complete time-pass read was provided by the player and he got millions of cash. He was relieved of his contract by the CSA after reaching a “mutual agreement” and the CSA gets the award.
Best Action (aka Best Magic show)
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 is dominating this year as they win the Best Action award as well. Former wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider provided one of the best action sequences ever. He is also the best magician ever as he pulled off a disappearing act in Dubai on the day of
the last ODI against South Africa right under the noses of the hotel and PCB management. He reappeared at the Heathrow Airport on the same day and announced his retirement from International cricket. He even claimed that the reason he became a magician was
because some unknown people offered him money to fix some match. What a great actor he is, he should also be awarded the Best Actor Award.
Man of the Year
Ricky Ponting is the Man of the Year. He needs this award so badly that he fought with umpire Aleem Dar on the second day of the fourth Ashes Test at the MCG. He knows he can’t have the urn and he probably knows his era is dawning as the last sun of the
year 2010 sets. So he needs this award. You are the man, Ponting.
