Cricket Special Report: Brian Lara eying a comeback thanks to T20 format
The emergence of T-20 cricket has helped many cricketers to elongate their careers. As this is the shortest version of the International cricket and less stamina is required to play compared to the Test cricket and the 50 over cricket, many players have
decided to only focus on this format.
Some cricketers have retired from International cricket and have been taking part in the Indian Premiere League (IPL) every year. Few of the names are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918, Mathew Hayden, Stephen Fleming, Shane Warne, Saurav Ganguly, Shaun Pollock and Shane Bond.
A few retired cricketers have also changed their minds and they have stepped into action again via the IPL.
The biggest of all these names is the former West Indian player and Captain Brian Lara. Lara had been out of competitive cricket for more than three years. He recently participated in a T-20 competition held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 to regain match fitness. Although
it was not the toughest of the tournaments but Lara wanted to be match-fit before making a comeback to the IPL.
Lara understands the level of competition in the IPL and considering that he has started training and playing some sort of cricket so that he would be able to justify his position in the IPL. Lara has been in negotiation with the English county team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851
to get a chance to play some competitive cricket before the start of the next season of IPL. Lara would enjoy a mentor’s role rather than being a competitor with the youngsters. He would be interested in following the footsteps of Shane Warne or Darren Lehman
who have worked as captains, coaches or mentors with their respective teams.
With more than 10,000 runs in both Test and One day cricket, Lara has been one of the very best cricketer’s the world has ever seen. The Flamboyant cricketer has 34 centuries to his credit and has a best of 400 not out against England. This is the highest
individual score by any batsman in Test cricket. Lara is currently 41 years of age and the main concern for him would be the fitness. If he is able to maintain high fitness, he might be a handy cricketer for any of the teams participating in the IPL.
Lara is also a big inspiration for the young cricketers playing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and worldwide. He has been a phenomenal player and he believes that the West Indian team would regain the lost glory it had in past. Lara is optimistic about the future of West
Indies cricket currently ranked eighth in the ICC test rankings. Lara admired the young talent in West Indies. He believes that players like Darren Bravo, Kemar Roach and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Barath-c42094 are very good for the future of West Indies cricket.
Apart from participating in the T-20 cricket in Zimbabwe, Lara also played the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL). Lara only played the ICL for one season and believes that the ICL was not rebel cricket at the time he played it. Lara said that it was for
the betterment of cricket at that time but now it is part of the history. Lara also played three international T-20 matches for his team and scored a fifty in one of the matches.
Brian Lara is a very big name for international cricket and the fans worldwide. His contribution to the international cricket is immense. If Lara is able to make it to the IPL, it would be a big achievement for him considering that he would be returning
to competitive cricket after a gap of three years. A couple of Indian players like Vinod Kambli and Ajay Jadeja have also shown interest in returning to cricket via IPL but it would not be easy for the veterans to make a comeback after such a long gap. Even
if they do come back, their performance will be under the scanner. It would be interesting to see how the veteran cricketers can make a comeback to cricket and prove their form and fitness.
