Cricket Special Report: Hussey- the Star on the second day of first Ashes test
Cricket has always been a game filled with unpredictability. How many times we are told to expect the unexpected whenever two strong oppositions are facing each other. When it comes to Australia and England being to two staunch oppositions, the games are
always nail biting ones.
After an exuberant start to the Ashes series by an immaculate bowling performance by Peter Siddle, England made the second day very interesting and a very fluctuating one. On the second day of the first Ashes test this series being played at Brisbane Cricket
ground Australia; the home team seemed in a little worry before the arrival of the man of crisis for Australia, Mike Hussey on the crease.
He scored an unbeaten 81 runs to give Australia a home run against the English opposition to push them behind in the race. Australia are sensing a good lead from now onwards after ending the day at 220 runs with the loss of 5 wickets.
The home team lost 4 crucial wickets on some ecstatic and pacy bowling by James Anderson and Steven Finn in the afternoon session. This was until Hussey landed on the field and the first delivery he faced became a silent streak as it fell inches short of
the second slip. This was the only delivery that got big on Hussey and the remainder was what we shall regard as a treat to watch.
He attacked Graeme Swann and made an impact for the rest of the series. He was hammered five fours and a six and often dropped shorter balls alongside the pace attack which were easily pulled by Hussey.
The England Bowling line up however did leave a mark on the opposition as Anderson looked very impressive to reinstate his image of being down under. He took two important wickets and kept the scoring rate just under two runs per over.
England had wanted swift morning session wickets but things did not go their way. We witnessed a great fight between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 and England pace attack. The bowlers strived to get him before the wicket but his static straight drives proved to be very frustrating
for the Englishman until Anderson who kept his calm bowled a beauty which was edged to first slip. This was the drop of first blood for England.
After this wickets started to fall in quick succession as Ponting was dismissed on the score of just 10, while Australia lost their second for 96. When Australia reached the total of 143 runs, it had lost 5 of its very crucial wickets. This was when Hussey
put his feet down and brought http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 out of the deep into a very comfortable position.
England Desperate to get the second new ball, could not avail the opportunity due to bad light followed by slight rain. So looking at the overall day, we saw some excellent moments. We came across some compulsive bowling and a few great knocks. This is a
perfect start to the series, both teams spurring their way in and showing their strengths to each other. There is one thing that is guaranteed for the viewers, absolute entertainment. We shall stay tuned and see which direction is the match headed to and anticipate
what the future games would be like.
