Cricket Special Report: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt likely to be removed
In what could be termed the latest development in the match fixing fiasco that has resulted in the suspension of three Pakistan players including test captain Salman Butt, the Cricket Board might find itself in a tight spot, one that could tighten the noose around their necks.
Following the appointment of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, as the chairman of the PCB in 2008, Pakistan’s fragile cricket stepped on a land mine and blew up. Ijaz Butt has single-handedly led the cricketing board of Pakistan to the gallows with a string of U turns on major decisions, making a mockery of senior and respectable Pakistan players, and then promising the Sri-Lankan cricket team of presidential level security only to find them abandoned in a cross road in Lahore being attacked by highly trained terrorists.
If a poll was to be conducted, it would be most likely that Ijaz Butt would turn out to be one of the most hated men in Pakistan. Ijaz Butt has been a fine cricket batsman in the past with the mind numbing batting average of 19 in first class matches, a feat that would make cricketing legends cringe their heads in shame, and stand in the corner wearing a dunce hat. His survival abilities would make a navy seal wet his pants if he were to find out the kind survival techniques the chairman PCB has mastered. Now, instead of people referring to a cat having 9 lives, refer to Ijaz having 19 lives. Take that you cats!
Ijaz Butt surely knows how to tick people off and he has done that successfully on more than a few occasions. Some say he is arrogant, others say he is snotty, while others find him very very s**y. Regardless of his arrogance, and his s*x appeal, people are finding that he is more than just a spoilt brat. He is a bimbo.
His attitude has been reflective of his mental age; he is still a whiny 10 year old boy who refuses to acknowledge his fault. He has had enough chances to set the Pakistan cricket board right, however unfortunately, the clock is ticking and he does not have much time left. The parliamentary committee for sports has sent several letters to the patron in chief of the PCB President Asif Ali Zardari demanding the removal of the chairman PCB and a complete revamping of the current administration.
In the most recent development, it seems that the patron in chief of PCB has given his consent for a massive overhaul of the cricket board. The patron in chief was under a lot of pressure to relieve the chairman of the cricket board of his duties and it seems that we may find Mr Butt walking the door sooner than we had anticipated.
"Indications are that the President has finally taken notice of the complaints by the members of the National Assembly and Senate Standing committees on Sports," The News quoted sources privy to the development, as saying.
One very strong bone of contention that most critics have with Mr Ijaz Butt is his insistence to appoint personal relations and relatives in the PCB. His insistence to continue with Yawar Saeed has also been under scathing criticism. According to sources, President Zardari is expected to make some announcement in this regard sometime next week.
Iqbal Mohammad Ali the head of the parliamentary committee for sports, demanded Butts resignation soon after reports of the alleged involvement of Pakistani players in a spot fixing imbroglio surfaced in the News of the World that took over the media like a storm.
The allegations have resulted in bringing a bad name to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, a country that has its political leadership already under scrutiny for corruption charges and allegations.
Let us all hope and pray that for the sake of cricket, Mr Ijaz Butt does not pull another one of his dirty tricks to remain in power and that this time he does find his way out of the PCB for our cricket’s sake and ours.
