Cricket Special Report: Team England- things to do for Boxing Day test
As Christmas approaches, England team will be making their wish list. The top most priority will be to win the crunch game http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in Melbourne to regain the Ashes. With the series levelled at 1-1, both the teams will fancy their chances in the next game
starting on the Boxing Day. Both the teams know the strengths and the weakness of the opposition. In the last three test matches of this series, both teams came good with their batting and bowling however, uncertainty still loops in sinusoidal performances.
Following is the list of things England need to do right to hold on to Ashes.
Adaptability:
Experts believe English team is playing with a preset game plan. This approach is successful to certain extend however they need to adapt dynamic approach. English batting line need to play the game according to the condition but they failed to do so in
the last test match at Perth. Plan B should always be there to cope up with different sorts of situations. Former English captain Nasser Husain said
“the way they played Mitchell Johnson at the WACA was a good example of not reacting to the situation quickly enough.”
The MGC track is speculated to be green like the one in the Perth. Australia has a “success formula”, that is to make bouncy and greentop pitches and try to exploit the conditions. If this happens Team England should have a solution to it, maybe adapt
to the situation and shuffle in the batting order might do the trick.
Promote Bell:
Ian Bell is seen as a technically strong batsman and has performed well in a last year or so. Bell is batting at number six and often when he comes to bat, he runs out of partners on the other side. Paul Collingwood is installed at fifth position and has
failed to make a mark in recent times. He looks short of confidence and failed to craft a long innings. Ian Bell should be promoted and if Paul Collingwood is given a go in playing eleven, he should be playing at number six. Bell expressed that he is willing
to be promoted up the order and Paul Collingwood has no issues playing at Ian Bell’s current position.
Graeme Swann:
Swann is one of the finest spinners England has produced. Over the period of a year or so, he has performed terrific in all formats of the game. In this series, he took a fiver in the win at Adelaide. Michael Hussey and Brad Haddin charged against him and
hitting him all around the park in this series. This has shaken Swann’s confidence and he is hesitant to ball to the duo. He is hesitant to flight the ball up and let it spin of the track. Against the middle order and inform duo, Swann has opted to defend
rather than to attack. So if English team wants best out him, the captain should let him attack and support with desired field placing.
Stay Calm:
The prime trick of the trade for any captain and his team is to be calm. Test match is all about nerves, the victor is the one who controls his nerves better than his opposition. Andrew Strauss admitted himself and ordered to the team: don’t panic. England
has a believe that they are much better than Aussies after the retirement of Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Justin Langer and few others. English team is often seen in a panic state which is not going to help their cause. Test match is about winning sessions,
so the teams need to be calm if things are not going their way. This positive vibe comes from the captain and Andrew Strauss needs to be calmer in the next Test match.
