Cricket Special Report: The need of Pakistani Batsman, Younis Khan at number 3
Number 3 in cricket is the most coveted batting position. They say that your best batsman should be in at number 3 to counter attack the opposition.
Pakistan has finished their tour of England on a low. Bowling has never been a problem for Pakistan. On this long tour, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar and Saeed Ajmal showed outstanding bowling performances.
However, Pakistan batting line-up has been bowled out under 100, three times this summer in England. These score lines clearly show that they don’t have any depth in their batting department. There number 3 and 4 are not certain. They started the tour with
debutants Azhar Ali at number 3 and Umar Amin at number 4, neglecting their top two batsmen Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf. Top number 4 batsman Mohammad Yousuf was called back from retirement during the England series, he looked good in the first test, but
know has been struggling with his form and fitness. They are still arranging a make shift number 3 to clarify their batting woes. Asad Shaffique, though a promising youngster, but still a rookie to play at number 3.
The last two ODIs between England and Pakistan have clearly shown that Pakistan needs their premier number 3 batsman back. A 121 run victory for England in the last ODI at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 collapsed.
Pakistan is lacking a solid middle order batsman in wings.
Younis Khan’s statistics have been excellent. He has been the best number 3 batsman for Pakistan, since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Abbas-c98435. Overall, he has an amazing tally of 5260 runs in 63 test matches at an average of 50 with 16 test hundreds. At home, he has gathered 1898
runs in 19 matches at an average of 59 with 7 test hundreds. Away from home, he has amassed 2930 runs at an average of 46 with 8 test centuries in 39 test matches. Fourth innings of test match is crucial, and the team is under pressure. Player’s true potential
can be seen how he copes up with pressure. Younis has done well to deal with the fourth innings pressure. A tally of 675 runs at an average of 51 with 3 test centuries in the fourth innings are a clear evidence of the statement.
The importance of a player in the team can be seen by his match wining statistics. Younis has one of the best records when it comes to match winnings records. He has gathered 2241 runs in 22 matches, at an average of 67 with 7 test centuries.
He has performed decently in ODIs as well. He has 5765 runs to his name at pretty decent average of 32 with 6 ODI hundreds. All 6 of his ODI hundred have come in a winning cause. 3 of these ODI hundreds have come while chasing.
Younis has an appetite to score big runs. His 267 against India in their backyard is the first by Pakistani player in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. At National stadium in Karachi, in 2009 against Sri Lanka, Younis became the 3rd Pakistani batsman to score a triple century.
A feat previously achieved by only two Pakistani players, Hanif Mohammad and Inzamam. This is the first triple century conceded by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Younis took over the captaincy from Shoaib Malik in 2009. His first test was a memorable one. He scored a triple century. He led Pakistan to their first World T20 win. They carried there form in the champions trophy and qualified for the final of the tournament.
Players were not willing to play under his captaincy. It was seen against the Kiwis. He resigned from captaincy, and took a break from cricket. He was called for the ODIs in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, struggled to perform. An inquiry committee was put to inquire the disastrous
Australian tour. He was banned for indefinite period alongside his fellow batsman Mohammad Yousuf.
Pakistan cricket needs Younis Khan back to avoid there batting collapses. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 should reconsider his relationship with him. PCB chairman is not doing injustice with Younis, but with the entire Pakistani nation.
