Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in major dilemma over Pakistan tour in 2011
The Sri Lankan cricket team during their tour to Pakistan in 2009 found themselves in the line of fire, on a major crossroad in Lahore as their bus was attacked by highly trained militants. Since then, International cricket has
come to a standstill in Pakistan as the Lankans narrowly escaped death, with Pakistan police officials giving their lives to protect the Sri Lankan cricket team. The team was promised Presidential level security; however, the inept administration of the PCB
could not live up to that promise.
The Sri Lankan Cricket team now finds itself posed with the dilemma of whether they should tour http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in 2011 according to the ICC Future tours Programme. They have the option of sending in a request to hold the series at a
neutral venue.
Sources within the PCB have confirmed that Pakistan is set to host Sri Lanka for a complete series in 2011.
"The tour is important for us but obviously keeping in mind the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team last year, we have serious doubts that they will agree to play in Pakistan,"
one source said.
Six Pakistani police officers, including a van driver were killed and several players sustained injuries as their bus came under attack. This incident resulted in teams refusing to play in Pakistan. Since 2009, Pakistan have played
all their series on neutral venues including Abu Dhabi and England.
Pakistan cricket board is also under pressure to accommodate Afghanistan; however, the PCB has refused to comment on that since they are in the planning stages for the next few months.
"The PCB has been told by the ICC to give Afghanistan some matches next year but so far no concrete schedule has been drawn up in this regard as Pakistan is still planning for the next few months,”
the source confirmed.
The chief executive of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamid-c61327 Shinwari admitted that he would send another letter to the PCB requesting to hold a series against the Afghanistan team. He said that they have been trying to approach the
PCB since last year. However, there has been no response from the main cricketing body in Pakistan.
The ICC task force for Pakistan has also planned the tour of World XI to play in the country, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 is also scheduled to tour the country next year.
