Cricket Update: Ashes 2010- Australian Captain Ricky Ponting’s Confrontation with umpires
Australian captain Ricky Ponting may face the disciplinary charges after a long confrontation with umpire over an unsuccessful video review on the second day of the fourth Ashes Test on Monday against England.
He will be available for the fifth Ashes Test after the International Cricket Council decision to fine him rather than ban him for his misconduct on day two at Melbourne.
Ponting was pulled into a lengthy argument with umpire Aleem Dar after rejection of appeal for caught behind against Kevin Pietersen first by Dar and then by the TV umpire following a referral.
The umpires reviewed the incident and team officials said that it could become a disciplinary issue for International cricket. International Cricket Council match referee Ranjan Madugalle after reviewing video footage considered it lying charges against
Ponting and Australian paceman Peter Siddle following a sizzling day at the Melbourne Ground.
The ‘not out’ decision for Kevin Pietersen by the video referee on 49 made Ponting furious. Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin was the only player from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 who raised call for catch and compelled Ponting to appeal for a video review after Pietersen
faced to edge a Ryan Harris delivery. As a result of which Ponting started arguing at length, with on field umpires Aleem Dar and Tony Hill when Pietersen was given not out. Ponting was also found guilty of exchanging harsh words with the batsman.
“We haven’t heard anything from the ICC yet so we just don’t want to discuss anything about what’s going on,” Siddle told a press conference. Siddle did not want to comment on further queries on the incident.
Cricket Australia Spokesman Lachy Patterson informed that the footage of the match was under review by the umpires for which ICC headquarters in Dubai will declare a decision regarding the charge arising from the incident.
DSR technology used by the third umpire revealed a bright mark on Pietersen’s bat which was not near where the ball passed between bat and pad.
However, Pietersen could hardly score two more runs before Siddle trapped him lbw. On the other hand, Trott who shared crease with Pietersen during the incident said that he had no knowledge of what was said or why Ponting was angered.
