Cricket Update: Ashes 2010- Trott and Pietersen put England in a commanding position
Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen pushed England’s lead ahead as they racked up a brilliant 92-run partnership in the course of the game. In the process, both the batsmen posted resilient half centuries in order to put their team in a commanding position
at tea on the second day of the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne.
The second session of play hung in a balance as Australia conceded 78 runs, taking 3 wickets, in the action. Bowlers for Australia did a fine job in the post-lunch session as their hardwork and nagging line and length earned them healthy dividends.
In the process, the visitors lost three wickets in the middle overs, cheaply. Their last three wickets fell in a space of just 24 runs as the visiting batsmen played some reckless shots, and as a result, their poor stroke-play brought about their demise.
However, England finished off the session on a score of 304 for the loss of five wickets.
Pietersen and Trott resumed the innings aggressively. In the start, the old ball didn’t pose any threat to them. England had already posted a competent score of 226 runs for the loss of two wickets.
Pietersen recorded a resilient fifty and in his display he struck seven crisp boundaries. As his innings progressed, he started to dominate the opposition, but a brilliant delivery from Peter Siddle brought about his downfall.
Trott remained unbeaten in the session and in doing so, the right hand batsman mustered a defiant half-century. Trott went into the pavilion for the tea break, adding 65 runs to the team total. In his brilliant display of batting, he mainly, played on the
leg-side of the wicket, collecting 6 boundaries.
Throughout the Ashes series, Paul Collingwood has struggled to make an impression with the willow, as he is the only top-order batsmen for the tourists, who hasn’t registered a half century. The right hander fell to poor shots as he pulled a short delivery
right into the hands of deep fine-leg, collecting just 8 runs in the innings.
Ian Bell has been in supreme touch, though failed to make an impact with his run-scoring bat. As a result, Bell got out in a similar way to Collingwood, hooking the ball straight into the throat of deep square-leg, adding only a run to the team’s total.
Australian bowlers bowled competently in the penultimate session of the day at MCG. The wicket was flat and it didn’t offer considerable amount of movement to the Aussies bowlers, however, the kept their cool and bowled a consistent line in order to entice
the batsmen into a false stroke-play.
Peter Siddle was the pick of the bowlers as he recorded decent figures of 3/41 in 19 incisive overs. The Australian premier quick bowler delivered a nagging line and troubled the opposition batsmen at will.
Mitchell Johnson came to the party as he also chipped in with two crucial wickets. The left-arm fast bowler displayed a thoughtful spell of shot-pitch bowling, and resultantly, his short off length deliveries earned him important wickets of Bell and Collingwood.
Matt Prior and Jonathan Trott will start the proceedings for the touring team as they have pushed England’s lead to a massive margin of 208 runs, with five more wickets to play.
On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has to break the ongoing partnership to get into the tail of the opposition batting line-up. The fourth test is slipping away from Australia’s grasp, so they have to finish off the innings, as quickly as possible, in order to
get back into the match.
