Cricket Update: Australian batsmen to look out for
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and India hit of yet another two Test series, as the Aussies lost the two Test match series 2-0 in 2008. However, the visiting skipper Ricky Pointing is looking to dominate the Indians from the start to restore the No. 1 Test position of the ICC.
The Aussie skipper also believes that winning the series is important but one should ensure that the series is played without any controversies.
The 1st test match starts at Mohali, as the visiting Aussies win the toss and elected to bat. The Indian team will surely look to defend their No.1 position is test cricket ranking, and to do that the hosts will have to look deep inside some of
the Aussie batting stars. Which include likes of Shane Watson, Simon Katich, Ricky Pointing, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey.
Shane Watson
Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 is by far one of the most brutal and aggressive right-handed batsmen international cricket has ever seen. His playing role though is of an all-round batsman and bowler, but his batting style is frequently compared to senior and former team mate
Matthew Hayden, as he drives and pulls more smoothly than Hayden.
Watson in his 5 years of test cricket has played only 20 matches, in which he has scored a healthy 1247 runs at an average of 36.67. He has made 9 half-centuries and one century, with his best batting figures of 120. The Aussie all-rounder has an affective
strike rate of 51.23. He also has a smashing boundaries side, which allowed him to struck 173 boundaries and 8 massive sixes. His hitting ability can be dangerous on slow pitches for any opposition, as the Indian playing conditions are normally slow like Asian
pitches.
Simon Katich
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Mathew-Katich-c90404 is capable of two batting style, the first can be his ability to nudge the ball around for one’s and two’s, to keep the scorecard moving. The second is that he can start working the ball towards boundaries. His favourite playing shots
are cutting, driving, and pulling the cricket ball.
Unlike fellow opener Watson, Katich has an impressive average of 46.83, as he has played 52 test matches and scored a massive of 3981 runs. The Aussie left-hand dasher has 10 centuries and 24 half-centuries to his name. He also has a tremendous boundaries
hitting record of 467 and 9 smashing sixes. His 467 boundaries also refer to the class he brings to the Australian opening stand, as Watson aggressive and brutal batting style is complemented.
Ricky Ponting
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricky-Thomas-Ponting-c85411 is someone who needs no introduction. Among his own Aussie clan, he sits right before the legend Don Bradman. He has all the shots in his batting blade. He can be very patient and yet extremely threatening at times. His most productive
methods of scoring are the cover drive or pull shot.
Ponting 15 year long test career has allowed him to play a massive of 146 test matches, in which the Aussie veteran skipper and batsman has scored over 12,000 test runs. With 1362 boundaries and 70 sixes, the veteran maintains a healthy batting average of
54.66. He also has an impressive strike rate of 59.48. The Aussie skipper highest of 257 surely makes him the biggest threat for the Indian bowling.
Michael Clarke
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 2004, he became
one of the few international cricketers to score a century on debut.
His infant test career of 62 matches, has allowed him to score a massive of over 4500 runs. With a highest of 168 runs, the Aussie has maintained an impressive batting average of 50.71. He also has 14 centuries, and 19 half-centuries, with a commendable
strike rate of 53.52. The Aussie batsman has struck 495 boundaries and 19 smashing hits for six.
Michael Hussey
Michael Edward Killeen Hussey is the fastest player to reach 1000 test runs, as all it took was 166 days of test cricket. The left hand dasher has the destructive ability to go after any world class bowling attack. Although, he has grown as an opening batsman,
he normally plays in the middle order. His understanding of the game is so strong, that his team mates call him Mr. Cricket.
In the 52 test matches he has appeared in, the Aussie dasher has scored a massive of 3981 runs, at an impressive average of 51.03. The Aussie also has 11 centuries and 21 half centuries, with a best of 182 runs to his name. However, his batting strike rate
is below 50.00 but he has struck 457 boundaries and 19 massive sixes.
In lights of Watson, Katich, Ponting, Clarke, and Hussy the Aussies can be a pretty dangerous batting side, as if they start going at it, they just might steal the game away from the Indian. In addition, on slow pitches, especially, slow pitches these batsmen
can be deadlier than ever. Thus, the Indian bowling attack should cater for a batting on slather by the visiting batsmen.
