Cricket Update: Daniel Vettori and raining Accolades for the Kiwi Captain
Daniel Vettori, the prodigy from New Zealand who was the youngest player to have joined the national cricket team at the age of 18 in 1996-97 and is the eighth player in Test history to have taken 300 wickets and scored 3000 runs as well. He is one of the
finest all-rounders in the world and has led his team to many successful campaigns. The maturity with which he has captained the side is reflective of their cohesion on and off the field. For his services to cricket, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 government and cricket
Board has awarded him with a number of accolades lately.
With 5 test centuries to his credit, the New Zealander is more than just the handy No. 8 player for the side. His bowling has improved greatly as well with his flight and variation making it extremely hard for the batsman to judge and cope with. Daniel Vettori
is currently ranked No. 2 as the Best ICC all rounder and is also ranked as the No. 1 ODI bowler in the world.
This year has been a particularly fruitful for the Kiwi captain and awards and accolades have been raining for this fine cricketer. Only earlier this month, this world class bowler and all rounder was awarded with three of New Zealand Cricket’s major awards
for the 2009-10 season. However little did Vettori know that more was still headed his way. Joining the New Zealand cricket team at the young age of 18 he did not get a chance to study and it was always his dream to do a first year course at Waikato University
in health science eventually working towards a pharmacy degree.
This dream came true for the New Zealand skipper when on Thursday he was awarded with an honorary Masters of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Science by Wintec University situated in Hamilton. Following this accolade, Vettori has found himself joining
the exclusive and elite group of honoraries from the University that include the likes of Sir Edmund Hillary, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, Colin Meads and the Topp Twins.
"He has been a force in all forms of the game, and you just have to look at the ICC rankings for confirmation with Daniel ranked as the top ODI bowler, second ranked Test allrounder and fourth highest Twenty20 wicket-taker," NZC chief executive
Justin Vaughan exclaimed.
