Cricket Update: Director of the West Indies Cricket Board says, Chris Gayle is a poor captain
Chris Gayle has said that the talks about his captaincy do not distract him. The speculations were sparked after Gale was overlooked by the selectors for the captaincy of Jamaica in the Caribbean T20 Championship.
Gayle said that he is not even focusing on the issue at the moment. He was talking to the media reporters on his return to Jamaica after the Caribbean T20 tournament. He said at present he wants to enjoy the break and is not at all giving any attention to the issue.
"I am not even focusing on that right now, to be honest," Gayle told the media persons on his return to his native place, Jamaica, after the tournament. "I am just here to enjoy myself and to enjoy the break as well, so I am not really paying any attention to that right now. I got a couple days [rest] so hopefully I can rebound again.”

Earlier in the Caribbean T20 tournament, Tamar Lambert was named by the selectors as captain for the tournament overlooking the regular captain of National team Chris Gayle. The move of the Jamaican selection committee opened the doors of speculation over Chris Gayle’s captaincy role with the national team. The cricket operations manager of Jamaica Cricket association Courtney Francis had shielded the decision of preferring Tamar Lambert over Gayle. He said that the later has not played much cricket for Jamaica in recent yesteryears, while Tamar has been with the players for an extended period.
Director of the West Indies Cricket Board, Azim Bassarath added more spice to the talks by criticising Gayle’s captaincy. Bassarath bashed Gayle for his performance in the 2010 T20 World Championship that was also staged in the Caribbean in May. The director said that after observing him in the T20 World Cup, he feels Gale is not a good captain.
"I have said it before that after observing Chris Gayle for the T20 World Cup I am of the view that he is not a good captain. He is a confused man when it comes to leading the team, and the Jamaica Cricket Association seems to have supported my view that he is not the best choice. I personally think that he is a poor captain," said Bassarath.
30 years old Chris Gayle said that he just wants to enjoy the break ahead of a busy season. There are couple of tours for the West Indies in the next few months including a one day regional tournament followed by a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Despite being a prolific cricketer, Gayle’s captaincy figures are not encouraging. After taking the captaincy three years back, he has led West Indies in 20 Test matches but has won only three. His recent Test performance as captain was against South Africa in June, where West Indies lost the three-match Test series by 2-0, while the second test at St Kitts ended in a draw. He played 53 One Day Internationals as a captain but could win only 17 out of these.
