Cricket Update: England and Australia will play for floods fundraiser
Cricket Australia announced that the fifth One Day International (ODI) between England and Australia will a fundraiser for the flood affected in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834.
England and Australia will be headlining the Commonwealth Bank One-Day International Series that is scheduled to begin from 16th
January 2011.
The third last ODI of a seven match limited overs series will be played on 30th January 2011 at the Gabba and it will be dedicated to the victims of the devastating floods in Australia.
It was announced on Cricket Australia’s official website that the Board in association with its sponsorship partners will be calling on all Australians to show their support for the victims. The funds will be raised for the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief
Appeal.
“We have all seen the devastation of the floods and feel for those affected in many communities in Queensland and NSW,” James Sutherland, the chief executive of Cricket Australia stated.
He conceded that the Australian cricket has many associations with the affected regions. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120.
“Through this match we hope all Australians can get behind the appeal and raise much needed funds,” Sutherland stated.
Cricket Australia’s fundraiser will add to their other supporting charity events. In 2004, they raised money in a one-off match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the devastating Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.
They also raised funds for the victims of the Victorian bushfire disaster in Australia in early 2009. They also organized matches to raise funds for the Haiti Earthquake victims last year.
Australia’s first woman Prime Minister, Julia Gillard was present on the third day of the last Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as she lent her support to the Jane McGrath Day.
She said that Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s move to support the victims is encouraging and she hoped that the Australians and fans of England will lend their support to the cause.
The Commonwealth Bank have already pledged $1 million. A telethon will also be organized by Channel 9, the official partner of Cricket Australia that will feature the Australian cricketers.
“Australian Cricket fans have a strong tradition of supporting communities at a time of need and they will surely come together for this cause,” Sutherland hoped.
