Cricket Update: Graeme Swann’s injury sidelined him for two weeks
England team have undergone a great shock ahead of Friday’s second one-day international against Australia owing to Graeme Swann’s withdrawal from the match with a knee injury.
Yesterday, the Australian cricketer Michael Hussey was also ruled out of the series following an injury.
While talking about the Swann, England Coach Andy Flower said that the off-spinner has suffered from a severe damage in his knee and could be out of the play for two weeks, and his return in the six of the seven-match series is expected in Sydney on February
2.
The 31-years old Swann suffered an injury in his knee while batting in last Wednesday’s first Twenty20 match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in Adelaide.
England’s off-spinner gave a good performance in the first match as he took one wicket in the match and didn’t give away too many runs. Apart from Swann, the other bowlers were expensive and were below par.
"He has got a slightly strangely deformed kneecap on his left knee," Flower told reporters in Hobart on Wednesday.
"He got hit and it is badly bruised and it is quite painful, so he won't be playing in this game and might have to rest for 10 days to two weeks.”
"That does give (James) Tredwell the opportunity depending on whether we want to pick two spinners or not."
Flower also revealed that the injured pace bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson will return to Australia to rejoin the English team on Friday. Broad was sent for rest after an abdominal strain during the second Ashes Test in Adelaide in December and is
still trying to recover.
On the other hand, Anderson was given rest after his team’s remarkable Ashes campaign, due to which he remained out of two Twenty20 games and the first one-dayer. It is expected that he will play in the fourth one-dayer against Australia in Adelaide on Jan
6.
According to Flower, Broad would not be able to participate in the one-day series.
"It is better for him to be out here rather than being in the middle of an English winter," Flower said.
Australia was the winner of first one-day match by six wickets while second match will be played on Friday in Hobart.
