Cricket Update: ICC Delays Verdict About The Suspended Pakistani Trio
The ruling of the spot-fixing saga against Pakistani trio Salman Butt, Muhammad Aamir and Muhammad Asif has been delayed. Chairman of the 3-men tribunal Michael Beloff will announce the fate of these players within a couple of weeks. If the charges are proven
then the International Cricket Council is likely to ban these players from any form of the game for at least 5 years to a life ban.
Pakistan cricket faced the darkest time of its history when the tabloid ‘News of the World’ broke the whole story about ‘deliberate no-balls’ during the Lords Test match. After that, International Cricket Council suspended the 3 players to take part in any
form of recognized cricket.
The allegations came at the worst possible time for Pakistan cricket as PCB was looking to build http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in a Test match after 15 years and won against England in the Oval Test as well
before this controversy. Quite ironically, all the three players were doing exceedingly well on that tour, as Muhammad Aamir was named as the Player of the Series against both Australia and England. Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt were also influential in Pakistan’s
success.
Pakistani fans would be hoping against all odds that the trio will come out clean out of the controversy, as all three of them were considered as the future of Pakistan cricket. The absence of Muhammd Aamir and Muhammad Asif has significantly weakened the
bowling attack of Pakistan as both of them were rated as one of the best bowling pairs in the world and Salman Butt was considered as the future captain of Pakistan.
Whatever is the outcome of the spot-fixing scandal, it is in Pakistan’s best interest that the judgment is given as soon as possible so that Pakistan cricket can start to move forward once again.
ICC is expected to take a harsh stand against the trio in its effort to prove itself as an effective governing body of the sport in the world. However, it is a possibility that Muhammad Aamir is treated a little leniently considering his youth and a clean
past record.
