Cricket Update: ICC shows annoyance over Pakistani suspended bowler Amir’s involvement in cricket relating activities
The International Cricket Council has expressed its annoyance after media reports has revealed that the fast bowler was seen playing practice matches between local teams at the Rawalpindi Stadium, despite a ban from all the cricketing activities until a
final verdict on the spot-fixing case.
The international cricket governing body called it a violation of orders of ICC tribunal which was investigating the cases of three Pakistan players – pacers Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir and opener Salman Butt.
The three-man anti-corruption tribunal headed by Michael Beloff held a six day hearing which started at January 6, and was to end at January 11 but they deferred the decision until the 5 February. The tribunal has forbidden the three suspended players –
Asif, Amir and Butt to take part in any cricketing activity until final verdict which is to come next month.
“It is a clear violation of the tribunal order,” an ICC official told to media.
“The tribunal chief made it clear after the hearing that the trio cannot participate in any cricketing activity and the order should have been respected,” revealed the official.
The official also did not give any notion that Amir can expect any compassion from the ICC.
“There is no question of showing leniency or giving permission to any player after the tribunal’s order,” official asserted.
The official also condemned the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board’s negligence regarding the tribunal orders. He added that ICC could not keep an eye on the activities of suspended players as it was the PCB’s responsibility to assure that the orders were being followed.
On the other hand, the PCB’s spokesperson http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nadeem-Sarwar-c78422 said though, the Amir was not seen in any tournament that comes under the board but still it would probe the matter that how the suspended bowler was allowed to play in the ground which was the part
of PCB’s jurisdiction.
Spokesman said that trio was already banned to take part in any cricket related activity and they will investigate how Amir was allowed to play at the Pindi Stadium. He further said that they will take necessary action if required.
Sarwar added that the board respects tribunal orders and following those restrictions the three players have been kept away from the tournaments despite several requests by various associations and the board even cancelled the contracts of these suspended
players.
The trio – Asif, Amir and Butt were suspended after the media reports unveiled their involvement in the spot-fixing during the fourth Test against England at Lord’s. According to media reports, these three players received money from an alleged ‘bookie’
for deliberately throwing no-balls during that Test match.
