Cricket Update: Ian Bell Feels England has been a better Performer at the Ashes 2010
Ian Bell, the English batsman, has stated that despite of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s win in third Test match at Perth, comparing to the winners, England was a better performer in the series.
Looking quite down and out in first two matches, success in third Test match of the five match series has made the Australian side feel confident. With comparatively a higher morale, now it’s in a better position to face the traditional English rivals in
the rest of the two Test matches of the Ashes series.
While talking to a press conference, Bell said, “Certainly, they have got some momentum going into it (the fourth test), they played some fantastic cricket at the WACA. (But) out of the three Test matches I’d say we’ve been playing the better cricket.
We’re going to have to start the Test match well. We don’t want Australia winning the first hour or that first session.”
He was of the view that starting the fourth Test match confidently and giving the opponents tough time during first few hours or in the first session will be great for his team. No matter whether they get to ball or bat first, he was hopeful to take back
the momentum of the game they had lost in the third match.
Bell, the 28-year old batsman, has been displaying an impressive personal performance in the series. For maintaining an average with 213 runs at 71, he is just behind Alastair Cook, the trailing opener, who is at top for a tally of 495 at 123.75
At Perth, the splendid batsman put 53 runs on board in his first innings, while altogether he ended with an impressive 187 runs in the match. Considering the quality of cricket he has been displaying, there have been calls to promote him to number 5, just
ahead of Paul Collingwood.
Collingwood has been rather disappointing as throughout this series, he could hardly maintain an average of 15.50. At Perth, he made only 16 runs in both of the innings.
Giving his views in context of the idea of promoting him to number 5, Bell said that for him, it was good to get promoted up; however; he also went on sharing that he had not yet talked to the team management in this regard.
