Cricket Update: Injury keeps paceman ‘Clint McKay’ out of World Cup
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s bowling line has got another jerk for the World Cup 2011 as Clint McKay has got an injury in his left foot.
He will undergo season-ending surgery on foot for which he will have to take rest for 10 weeks that will keep him away from the World Cup. McKay 27 is third in Australia’s one-day wicket tally over the past year having taken 27 wickets at an average of 19.59.
He claimed 5-54 in his last one-day international against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 on January 3rd after which a stress fracture of the navicular bone in his left foot
was revealed.
Medical staff revealed that McKay has got a serious injury due to which he will have to undergo surgery on his left foot next week which will keep him out of the play for 10 weeks. Victorian team physiotherapist Thihan Chandramohan said that the surgery
was the conservative option but it was necessary for McKay. “It’s the first major injury that’s put him out for a long period and it’s one that’s hard to prevent because it’s just related to the bone not handling the load that’s going into it,” Chandramohan
added.
He however said that the exact recovery period of the injured player will be revealed after his surgery next week.
“[A navicular fracture] can be serious, especially if you try and play with them when you’re sore. It’s one of the major reasons we’re trying to fix it before it gets worse,”
he said.
Besides, Australia will also be missing their top bowler Ryan Harris in the upcoming World Cup with a stress fracture in his foot that appeared during the Boxing Day Test. In addition, Australia’s other paceman Mitchell Starc, who is included in the World
Cup preliminary 30-man squad, has a side strain which has kept him out of national team for two months.
McKay is hopeful for his in time come back to carry on with his money spinning contract in the Indian Premier League in April. Last week he was chosen in the auction by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians for $111,709, but his contract may be shortening in case, he delays
