Cricket Update: James Hughes criticises Michael Clarke and Philip Hughes
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has criticised Michael Clarke and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185 for attending a function before Boxing Day Test against England.
It was reported that both the players attended a Shane Warne Foundation breakfast early on Boxing Day morning before they return to the team’s hotel.
Both the players – Clarke and Hughes were allegedly interviewed at 7.30 am in the Palladium Room at Crown Casino. The match started after three hours later, and both the players could not stay long on wickets -- Hughes slashed to gully for 16 and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120
went outside his off stump to be caught behind for 20, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 scored 98 giving a chance to England to pave their way to a splendid victory.
Sutherland while speaking to a Melbourne radio station said that he was unimpressed with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 duo. "That was a supreme error of judgment on their part," Sutherland said.
While criticising Clarke and Hughes, he said that the players decided to attend the function by own their own and it would really be a surprise if any such act would happen again. He said,
“You don't leave yourself open to the chance of criticism. As a professional footballer, you would never do that.”
Reports also revealed that Clarke attended breakfast function during the Sydney Test.
Clarke has taken over Australian team as ODI captain after Ricky Poniting faced an injury in his small finger. Clarke got retirement from Twenty20 cricket after dismal Ashes defeat.
Sutherland did not spare, criticizing even the chairman of selectors and said that it was unfortunate that Andrew Hilditch had claimed the selection panel had done “a very good job” after Australia’s 3-1 Ashes loss in their home soil this summer.
"Andrew's comments ... were unfortunate, and I think what he was trying to say was the selectors had tried their hardest," Sutherland said.
Concluding his discussion he said for this humiliating defeat of Australia everyone involved needs to take responsibility.
The selectors have made some odd decisions by including and removing Nathan Hauritz and playing Xavier Doherty and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949, who took a combined tally 4 for 418.
