It was a rain effected day all round in England in the friends provident T-20, Lancashire beat Nottinghamshire by 9 wickets through Duckworth and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lewis-c72807 method.
It was a seamer friendly day at old Trafford Manchester, where Nottingham was troubled throughout their innings with some quality swing bowling from the home side. Hales was the only shining star in an otherwise struggling batting performance from Nottingham. From the 9 players that batted in the innings, only 2 managed to get into double figures, as Nottingham posted a modest total of 138 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Lancashire was given a revised target of 83 runs in 10 overs which they got with little trouble.
It was Nottinghamshire who won the toss and elected to bat first on an overcast day, the decision was surely a bold one from the Aussie Michael Hussey, who was leading the away side. Aliaster Brown, the veteran opener did not last long against the moving ball. McCullum got the better of him in the first over as he edged one to the slips on the 4th ball. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brown-c48671 did not manage to get off the mark,
Hales at the other end was looking more in control and played couple of good drives in the first few overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wood-c98110, who came in at number 3 lasted just 8 balls and was caught at point by Chilton off the bowling of Smith, he only managed 3 runs.
Patel then joined Hales in the middle looking to resurrect the innings; Hales tried to get most of the strike and did make good use of it. While Patel was not able to put bat to ball and was 3rd man to go caught in the slips, he just made 3 from 8 balls, his catch was taken by Mahmood off the bowling of Smith.
The pattern continued throughout the innings, as Hales looked to be playing a while different match compared to his team mates, and was able to time the ball with authority, whereas at the other end wickets kept tumbling.
Captain David Hussey was in next and did give support to Hales for a brief period, Hussey was run out via direct hit from Smith, and he scored just 9 runs from 11 balls.
Mullaney came in at number 6 and put together just 14 runs with Hales, he was caught and bowled by McCullum after scoring 9 runs from 8 balls with one boundary.
Former England wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Read-c1248, who was part of England’s famous ashes winning side back in 2005 put on 26 with Hales, before being caught by Morre off the bowling of Keedy for 11 runs from 14 balls.
Hales realised he was running out of partners and run rate was not the impressive either, so he started to use the long handle and did get hold of a few. Keedy got one to nip back and bowled him, he scored 83 from 61 balls with 8 fours and 1 six.
Nottinghamshire finally ended their innings at 138 for the loss of 7 wickets.
The start of Lancashire inning was delayed due to rain and when the innings started, the target was reduced to 83 in 10 overs. The home side had little trouble in getting to the score. Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moore-c77694 and Smith started brightly and put on 45 for the first wicket in just 4 and and half overs. Smith was the only wicket to fall. He was out LBW to Sidebottom for 16 runs from 14 balls with 1 boundary.
Moore and Croft guided the team home with 10 balls to spare; Moore was unbeaten at 51 in the end and was named man of the match.
