Cricket Update: Nathan Hauritz sustains shoulder injury in second ODI against England
Australian off-spinner, Nathan Hauritz has undergone a serious injury on his right shoulder while fielding for his team on second match of one-day international against England on Friday.
He received injury while chasing a hit from Michael Yardy out the boundary at Bellerive Oval when he slid to catch the ball. After that, he remained on the ground for several minutes with his teammates around him waiting for the medical aid before he indulged
in severe pain.
Hauritz, a player of 29-year old who has also been included in the World Cup squad last week has performed in 57 ODI series picking 63 wickets with an average of 33.58. He last played in ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Sydney on 5th November 2010.
Australia is already missing veteran Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey. Ponting was named as the captain of the upcoming World Cup team though he is still recovering from an injury in his small finger. He got an injury on the third day of the third test match
when he was taking Jonathan Trott’s catch in the slip.
On the other hand, Hussey got injury on the first match of ODI at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday where Australia earned a six wicket win over England.
It was reported that Hussey might be sidelined for at least six weeks, with Australia’s first game on 21 February, and chairman selectors Andrew Hilditch expressed a fear that his inclusion in the mega event was doubtful.
"It is a severe injury and we will make a decision closer to departure date," Hilditch said on Tuesday.
Apart from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, there are some other teams who are missing their key players due to injury, though they are named in the final squad of World Cup 2011.
South Africa will be missing their key player Jacques Kallis throughout the five-match one-day international against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. He met a rib injury while batting in the first innings of the third Test.
In the same way, India will be missing many of its key players during the whole ODI series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. The list of these players include -- batting icon Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Ghambhir, Virendar Sehwag and Parveen kumar.
Indian batting star Tendulkar, who had not been featured in one-dayers after scoring a record-breaking double century in February 2010, suffered the injury during the second ODI against the Proteas, while Gambhir was ruled out of entire ODI series due to
his elbow injury he sustained at Newlands.
