Cricket Update: Nathan McCullum guides http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 to a series win against Pakistan
The second Twenty20 between Pakistan and New Zealand proved to be another disappointment for Pakistan, as their players failed to give a good performance in the crucial match of the series. It was a more convincing victory for the New Zealand side as they
first posted a huge total of 185 and later bowled exceptionally well to restrict Pakistan to 146 from their allotted 20 over’s. Nothing went right for Pakistan in the second Twenty20, as none of their batsmen were able to score a huge total in their innings.
On the other hand, New Zealand would be over the moon as they have gained some good form before the One day and Test series. It is an awkward situation for Pakistan as now they would have to find the right outfit for the upcoming One day series.
New Zealand started on a sorry note when J Ryder played a careless glance on the leg side and was caught by the Keeper. It was the first ball of Razzaq’s over and gave Pakistan the start they would have desired early on. But the celebration did not last
too long for Pakistan, as the Kiwi batsmen scored mercilessly of the fast bowlers. M Guptill again showed his class and scored 44 runs of just 28 balls. New Zealand promoted James Franklin up the order and this gamble worked for the Kiwis. Both Franklin and
Guptill played the fast bowlers with ease and did not let any scoring opportunity pass by. Shoaib Akhtar, who bowled well in the first Twenty20, was least effective in the second one and went for runs in his spell. Almost all the New Zealand batsmen played
the fast bowlers well and scored heavily of their bowling.
Guptill batted with a lot of confidence and struck 3 sixes in his innings. Franklin started slowly in his innings but gained momentum after sometime. He paced his innings well and scored a lot of singles. Franklin and Guptill added 90 runs for the second
wicket and scored at 7 runs per over. New Zealand lost its second wicket, when Guptill went for a huge shot of Ajmal’s bowling and was caught at mid wicket region by Afridi. In the next over, Franklin was dismissed by Afridi and suddenly New Zealand had two
new batsmen at the crease. The wickets did not hamper the attention of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 and Scott Styris as they both contributed a partnership of 39 runs of just 21 balls.
Styris played a quick innings of 34 of just 14 balls which also included 3 sixes. After Styris, New Zealand needed some quick runs at the depth over’s and this need was provided by their keeper, P McGlashan. McGlashan played a little cameo of 26 runs of
just 10 balls. He scored 25 runs of Umar Gul’s over and struck 3 four’s and two sixes of Gul’s bowling. In the end, New Zealand managed 185 runs from their 20 over’s and gave a huge challenge to Pakistan to save the series.
Pakistan did what was expected from them and again faltered in their batting. Hafeez was the only prominent scorer for Pakistan as he scored 46 runs of 30 balls. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 started on a good note and scored 24 runs from their 2 overs. Pakistan lost its first
wicket when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 tried to become too adventurous
and lost his wicket in the process. After Shahzad’s dismissal, Pakistan began losing its wickets in quick succession as none of the prominent batsmen made any significant impact with the bat.
Hafeez played aggressively for his 46 and went after the New Zealand bowling. Hafeez was not able to score his fifty and got run out after a terrible mix up with Umar Akmal. For New Zealand, the real hero was Nathan McCullum, as he bowled an exceptional
line in his spell and took 4 important wickets of Pakistan. The required run rate continued to climb for the Pakistani batsmen and in the end, it was too much runs for the lower order to chase. Pakistan managed 146 runs from their 20 overs and lost 9 wickets
in the process. Southee again bowled well and took 2 wickets in his spell. Nathan McCullum, for his wonderful bowling, was named Man of the Match.
