Cricket Update: New Zealand beat India by 200 runs
New Zealand completed a resounding 200 run win against India in the first match of Tri Series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. As predicted earlier, it was once again the team that won the toss that had the advantage. The batting conditioned earlier on were not that difficult and later on the ball just jagged around all over the place. The dew on the ground had a lot to do with that. New Zealand after winning the toss elected to bat first, but Indian pace attack did rattle the Kiwi top order.
New Zealand were 28 for the loss of 3 wickets but bounced back well led by the interim captain Ross Taylor and Scott Styris. Black caps put on a commanding total of 288 runs. In reply, the strong Indian batting line up was all over the place and just could not match the swing and seam of Kiwi attack. The whole team folded for just 88 runs handing New Zealand a thumping 200 run win.
Paul Ingram and Martin Guptil started the innings for New Zealand and got to 15 in 2 over. Guptil was the first one to go; he was caught behind by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 off the bowling of Praven Kumar for just 11 runs from 6 balls (with 2 fours).
Ingram also did not last long; he was also caught by Dhoni but off the bowling of Ashish Nehra for 12 runs from 17 balls with 2 fours.
Williamson though got the ball of the match, as Kumar got one to pitch middle and moved just enough away from the bat to square up the batsman and took the off stump. Williamson did not score any runs.
Black caps looked up against it, and the man who made the decision to bat first, Ross Taylor alongside Scott Styris led the comeback. Taylor and Styris at first took the cautious approach and made sure they did not lose any more wickets. As soon as the shine of the ball was gone, the pair started using the long handle and took the Indian bowlers to cleaner. Taylor typically favoured the leg side, while Styris was more inclined towards the straight boundary. Taylor smashed number of boundaries and a six with his trademark slog sweep.
The pair added 190 runs for the 4th wicket. Partnership was broken when Styris was cleaned up by Prgyan Ojha, after scoring 89 runs from 95 balls with 9 fours and a six. Big hitting Jacob Oram was in next but could not impress much and was dismissed for 14. Taylor also fell soon after falling 5 short of what would have been a brilliant century. He was out LBW to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293 for 95.
New Zealand endured a collapse in the end and was all out for 288 in the 49th over. Nehra took 4 wickets for India.
In reply, the start was not that bad for India, Virendar Sehwag and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321 for 19 runs from 23 balls with 3 fours. Karthik also fell on the very next ball in the next over he was out LBW to Darryl Tuffy for 14 runs from 20 balls with 2 fours.
It was all downhill from then on, as Kiwi bowlers continued to move the ball around and Taylor kept on the pressure with 3 slips. Pressure paid off and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 was all out for just 88 runs with only 3 batsmen getting into double figures.
Kiwis won the match by 200 runs, and New Zealand Captain, Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 was named man of the match for his excellent 95 runs.
