Cricket Update: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s Captain Vettori undergoes blood tests owing to his illness
Owing to his mystery illness, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has gone through the blood tests, reported by team manager Dave Currie on Saturday.
His illness made him lethargic and felt fluey as a result of which his normal energetic fielding was greatly suppressed on the second day of the first test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in Hamilton. He left the field for 20 minutes late on as the visitors moved forward
to 235 for four, 40 runs behind New Zealand’s first innings of 275 all out.
The 31-year-old left-arm spinner still managed to bowl 22 overs and faced just 29 runs. Former New Zealand selector Dion Nash on radio commentary on the day said that Vettori had been told that one of the blood tests was of malaria, while Dave Currie rejected
the idea and said that the illness was still undiagnosed.
"I don't know where he (Nash) got that speculation from," Currie told reporters.
"He has been in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 so I guess they test for everything but there has no been speculation (as to the cause).”
"Clearly he is not a million dollars, you can see that, but he's well enough that he's played," Currie said.
He added that health team were not sure what it was, he has had some tests and the results will be available in a couple of days then they will see what will happen. Currie said that Vettori had flu and fever symptoms, but he was batting on for the team.
He added that there was nothing to be worried about as the player carried on with his play.
"The reality is he's playing, he's not on death's door,” said Currie.
New Zealand fast bowler Brent Arnel, who took two wickets on Saturday, revealed that Vettori continued playing was a witness to his mental and physical fitness. He added that the captain was a tough guy and was showing his passion by being out there.
He praised Vettori and said that he was such a courageous leader and was great to see him out there and fighting it. He explained that though he was not too well and to see him bowling like that was magnificent and he was again unlucky because he could have
had a couple of wickets.
