Cricket Update: PCB Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 to resolve captaincy issue
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt recently has left for New Zealand to resolve the captaincy issue before making a prior announcement.
According to media reports, Butt has left for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 to join Pakistan team, which will start its six One-day Internationals against New Zealand on 22 January. Sources in the PCB has revealed that the board officials were advised to keep his visit secret
as he wanted to quietly hold the meetings on Thursday and Friday respectively before deciding the captain for national team ahead of mega event jointly held by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
"Ijaz Butt wants to sort out the captaincy issue after meeting some key players and team officials in New Zealand," said a source.
PCB has announced its 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup on last Tuesday but they remained indecisive in naming the captain for final squad which raised many questions for the fans of the team.
It is speculated that the issue of captaincy started because PCB has turned to a second choice of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, who recently lead the national team to a Test series win against Black Caps.
It is also reported that Butt will arrange meetings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, Misbah, and also with the current coach Waqar Younis in Wellington in order to take a decision over the captaincy issue.
The coach Waqar has recently criticised PCB’s decision to delay naming of the captain for the World Cup starting next month.
"This is also surprising to me. I don't know what reasons the board could have for delaying naming the captain but personally I feel it would have been better to announce the captain along with the World Cup team,"
Former pacer and many other cricket legends have condemned the board’s action of delaying the name of captain adding that it will raise issues within the team.
The former fast bowler, hailed the Test captain Misbah for leading the team to its first Test series win in four years time in New Zealand. He added that the player has done an outstanding job on and off the field as a captain for which he deserved to be
praised the way he handled the team and coped with the issues.
In response to Waqar’s remarks, PCB has issued a notice to the coach and has forbidden board’s officials and players to have a direct contact with the media.
