Cricket Update: PCB takes action over Waqar’s statements
Pakistan Cricket Board has taken an immediate notice on the statement of Coach Waqar Younis after his remarks on the board’s delay to announce the name of captain for the World Cup even after declaration of final 15-man squad.
PCB media manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nadeem-Sarwar-c78422 told the media that the board took action on Waqar’s statement regarding the captaincy issue in New Zealand."We have issued him (Waqar) a notice asking him to explain his comments on the captaincy issue since he is under
contract with the PCB," Sarwar said.
He revealed that all the players and officials under PCB’s media Policy are forbidden to give any statement that questions or raise contradiction about the policies of the board.
Talking about the PCB’s notice on this action, Sarwar said that the board has inquired him to give an explanation on his statement that he was surprised by the decision not to announce the World Cup captain.
Waqar on Wednesday had expressed his surprise over the PCB’s decision to delay the announcement of captain for the World Cup.
"This is also surprising to me. I don't know what reasons the board could have for delaying naming the captain but personally I feel it would have been better to announce the captain along with the World Cup team," Waqar informed the media from

When Waqar was asked to give a clue regarding the choice of captain for the mega event coming next month, he denied giving any response to this query.
"But whoever is the captain, his name should have been announced along with the team. Not announcing the captain will only lead to issues,” said Waqar.
He also gave the reference of other teams and said that they have announced the squad with their captain. The former fast bowler favoured Misbah as a captain of the team to its first Test series win in four years in New Zealand.
Talking about Misbah, Waqar said that in his view, the player has done an excellent job on and off the field as captain and he deserved appreciation the way he has coped with the team issues and players in addition to his own personal contribution as a player.
Waqar keeping an eye on the World Cup said that after the recent Test series win, the next six-match one-day series against New Zealand would be tough target.
"How we perform against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the one-dayers will basically decide our tone for the World Cup. It will give a clear indication of how we are going to perform at the mega event,” said the coach.
Apart from Waqar, many other former captains and cricket experts have condemned the decision of the board not to announce the captain along with the World Cup squad because in their view this delay near World Cup might raise problems and issues in the team.
Recently, PCB has approved a new media policy for the players and officials and has decided to take strict action on any violation of this policy that bounded players to have direct interaction with the journalists and depending more on press releases.
Waqar a former Pakistan captain of 39 year-old guided Pakistani team to its first Test series win since 2006, when Pakistan won against New Zealand taking a lead by 1-0 in the two-match series on Tuesday.
Waqar, a former Pakistani player has been fortunate as he had been an active player of the national team when they won the first World Cup for their country in 1992.
