Cricket Update: Pakistan's World Cup preliminary squad announcement likely on 30th December
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board is likely to announce the preliminary squad of 30 players for the ICC World Cup on December 30th, 2010. Currently, PCB is seeking clearance from ICC regarding some of the major players like former captain Shoaib Malik, wicket-keeper
Kamran Akmal, all-rounder Rana Naved and leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314.
This is after Pakistani captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Afridi’s dissatisfaction on his team’s preparations for the World Cup. He had asked the media to question the selection committee as to why Shaoib Malik and Kamran Akmal are not part of the limited overs setup anymore.
The deadline set by the ICC for the announcement of 30-men squad was 19th of December 2010 but PCB requested ICC to extend the date as it seeks clearance from cricket's world governing body. ICC has given the PCB extension till 5th
of January, 2011.
PCB's selection committee will also soon announce the squad for the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. If Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal declare their financial assets by 30th December, they could well be part of Pakistan’s ODI format in New Zealand
and then later on the World Cup also.
If Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal are given green signal by ICC then it is definitely going to boost Pakistan’s chances in the World Cup as both these players give a lot of flexibility to Pakistan’s limited overs combination.
Shoaib Malik is not only a brilliant middle order batsman, in fact he is also a tremendous fielder and handy off-spinner. On the other hand, Kamran Akmal is an explosive opening batsman who gives an advantage to Pakistan in order to play an extra bowler
or an extra batsman in the middle order. Both these players have shown great form in the ongoing Quaid e Azam Trophy 2010-11 with a double century each.
