Cricket Update: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Spot-Fixing was a setup- Azhar Majeed
After almost 5 months of spot-fixing fiasco, Azhar Majeed the brother of the infamous Bookie Mazhar Majeed has finally spoken out in support of his brother.
Azhar while talking to a British News Channel backed his brother and believed that Mazhar was innocent. Azhar who is also a business partner of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448, accused the British tabloid “News of the World” of setting up the whole thing against his brother.
Talking on the News Channel he said, “In my personal opinion, it was a set-up from start to finish and I have ideas as to how that started. But, for legal reasons, I'm keeping that to myself. I believe in my brother and all I know about my brother. He's
a very generous and kind person and has helped a lot of people in his time."
Azhar pleaded that because of this scandal, he had lost contracts worth thousands of pounds, for of being associated with his brother. Both brothers have represented many sporting figures in the past, as sports-agents, but the spot-fixing incident has tarnished
their reputation.
Azhar who has never been linked with any wrong doings, expressed his frustration for suffering the consequences of being involved in spot-fixing, when he never had anything to do with the whole incident. “I want to get back to my livelihood. I've been
a cricket agent without any incident whatsoever. My life is on hold. Not being involved, it doesn't make any sense to me. Throughout my life I've had a clean record. I've never been involved with the police,” he reiterated.
In August last year, Mazhar Majeed was caught in a video, convincing an undercover reporter of the “News of the World” that he could make the Pakistani pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif bowl deliberate no-balls at a specific time in the ongoing Test
against England, at Lords. He was then seen taking £150,000 from the reporter as payment to be used for bribing the players.
Later the bowlers did indeed bowl the controversial deliveries, confirming foul play in the eyes of the tabloid. It then decided to hand over the evidence that it had to the British Police.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard took lead of the case and it was decided by the investigating agency to raid the rooms of the three players; Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.
The trio were immediately suspended from taking part in all forms of cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The players then faced an ICC anti-corruption hearing from the 6th to 11th of January, 2011. The verdict of the hearing will be made public on the 5th of February.
Apart from this hearing which was totally focussed on the charges levelled against the players. Mazhar and the trio are awaiting a decision by the Crown Prosecution Service on whether they will be facing criminal charges or not for defrauding bookmakers
in England.
