Cricket Update: Ponting says that winning the World cup would not decrease the pain of losing the Ashes
Australian Captain, Ricky Ponting has said that winning the World Cup would not decrease the pain of losing the Ashes series. Ricky Ponting was the Captain of Australia when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 lost the Ashes after 24 years in their own backyard. Before the Ashes
series, there was a tagline called “History will be made” and it used to circulate within the cricketing circles of Australia. History was made but it was not the one which Australia would have liked as England literally crushed them by a comprehensive margin
in the Ashes series.
The pain is indeed too much for the Aussies and somehow their players have not managed to get fully recovered from this tragic loss. One person who has always taken the Ashes series too close to his heart is Ricky Ponting. Ricky Ponting has always given
the Ashes series the out most importance in his cricketing career and losing the Ashes is just too much for Ponting.
The recent Ashes loss has taken a huge toll on him and has left him handicapped for some time. Ricky Ponting said that there is nothing that could help him to erase the pain of losing the Ashes series. Ponting further said that Australia would have to look
forward and they would have to make sure that they are well prepared for the next tournament or a series.
Australian skipper was of the view that there have not been too many losses and disappointments in his cricketing career. There is no doubt that Ricky Ponting has been one of the most successful Captain of the Australian side, as Australia has won number
of major tournaments and series under his captaincy.
However, Australia has also been misfortunate to lose three Ashes series under his Captaincy. Ponting said that there is no use of looking back and thinking about the things that have happened in the past. Ponting is in the” Twilight” of his career and it
is most likely that he would retire before the next Ashes series.
Ponting further said that the Ashes series and some previous series were a huge disappointment for him but he realizes this fact that now he has to look forward to the World Cup. Ponting’s form was a huge issue in the Ashes series and apart from a half century
in the Brisbane Test there was no other innings in which Ponting showed some good form with the bat.
