Cricket Update: Resistance and weather assistance helping Sri Lanka Draw the First Test at Galle.
When we look back in the past, we come across some great names in the history of cricket. Among these are a quite a few that belong to a team once considered by too many as a dark storm in the field. From ecstatic batsman like sir Vivian Richards to the
legendary bowlers like Malcom Marshal. From Brian Lara to Courtney Walsh, consistently hit the hall of fames and made their nation proud.
Just a few days back, looking at the dazzling and dominant performance of Chris Gayle reminds us of the most despotic performance ever by a legendary batsman of all times known as Brian Lara. Gayle always known for his aggressive nature in batting proved
his critics wrong by scoring a priceless 333 runs knock that put the Caribbean in the driving seat against the Sri Lanka in the First test being played at Galle International Stadium.
Gayle’s batting along with some good support by Nash , Bravo and Barath (each having a half century under their belt ) resulted in the final score of 580 runs with the loss of nine wickets as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 called for a declare.
In response, Sri Lanka was rattled by the intelligent bowling of Roach and Shilling Ford who took 3 and 4 wickets respectively.  This put the West Indies on the front foot as Sri Lanka were forced to follow on. Thereon the openers giving http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 an opening
stand of a 102 runs giving Sri Lanka some hope of a return in the match. Performances by Paranavitana and Mahela take Sri Lanka towards draw as just before the rain Sri Lanka being on 241 for 4 with the dark clouds covering the stadium.
An Indolent after lunch performance from the West Indies certified that Sri Lanka were 39 runs ahead at tea with six wickets in hand, directing the game on course for a draw, with some special intervention by the dark rain clouds plummet over the stadium.
It was never an easy going for Sri Lanka on the last day. A devastating spell from Roach in the first session had took out Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara. Roach went through that firing opening spell, bowling two dangerous and steady maidens to
Paranavitana before destroying Dilshan's off stump with a pacy yorker. The very next over Roach took the prize wicket of Sangakara who edged a ball just outside his off stump, to leave Sri Lanka crumbling at 110 for two. Then Paranavitana and Mahela put up
a great fight for their survival at the crease till lunch. Shillingford’s hazardous deliveries made the all important breakthrough for the Windies, controlling the atmosphere after lunch.
