Cricket Update: Ricky Ponting Favours the Review of Australian Cricket
Ricky Ponting, the injured skipper of team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s Test squad has favoured the idea of reviewing the state of Australian cricket after the national team has faced an embarrassing defeat of 1-3 against England in the Ashes series.
Ponting, who is perhaps the only Australian cricketer who lost three consecutive Ashes, feels that Australian cricket’s depth has been weakened in the past few years, and work needs to be done to revive its lost grace and glory.
Dramatically, team Australia, which used to be the best team in the world in all forms of cricket till recently, has eventually fallen into a deep slump and has remained failed in winning any big event since last http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 when it had been there on tour to New
Zealand.
Though the performance of the team had already been under question, but the recent decline in its performance against England has accentuated the level of the damage. Keeping the performance of his team in view, Ponting has favoured the idea of a thorough
analysis of the down under cricket team.
While expressing his views on the dismal state of the affairs in cricket Australia and on its revival, Ponting wrote in a column,
“There is a review after every season, of which I’m always a big part. I understand there will be a lot more involved in the review this time around and rightly so. The performance of the elite team over the past few weeks has been very disappointing. But
I think it’s important we look a fair bit deeper into Australian cricket than just the last couple of weeks.”
The veteran player was of the view that amid the review, the game was to come under severe scrutiny.
While adding to his column, he said, “we’ve got to look further back to club cricket and junior cricket to find out what has caused us to end up in this position. I think the whole structure of Australian cricket needs looking at. We’ve got to look at
our state cricket. I’m not sure that is as strong as we need it to be. We’ve got to look at the reasons why.”
The former skipper of the test squad concluded his remarks while lamenting the fact that there had been a great many things which required attention and needed to be worked upon, but right at the moment, it was though the country was not producing enough
and high quality Test cricketers.
