Cricket Update: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 vs. India, tri-series, 3rd ODI, Dambulla- Host Sri Lanka only manage a total of 170
Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara’s decision to bat first in the third match of the tri-series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 back fired big time, as the hosts were rolled over a paltry total.
The hosts lost opener Upul Tharanga on the first ball of the match, when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Praveen-Kumar-c82600 knocked his off-stump with a ball that deviated late of the wicket.
The Sri Lankans were rocked further when Captain Kumar Sangakkara skied a catch to Pragyan Ojha at fine leg of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293; the left-hander scored 2 runs off 12 balls.
After his dismissal, Mahela Jayawardene was sent packing by a sharp in swinger by Kumar that caught him plumb in front of the stumps.
Soon afterwards, Sri Lanka’s Mr. Dependable Thilan Samaraweera perished to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravindra-c84236 Jadeja after scoring 4 runs. The hosts were reeling at 44/4 at this stage as they were partially rescued by a 38 run partnership between Dilshan and Angelo Matthews.
Sri Lanka’s mainstay Tillekaratne Dilshan was dismissed for 45 in what was a body blow to the hosts; Dilshan hit five boundaries in his 62 ball knock.
Soon afterwards, all-rounder Matthews was dismissed for 15 runs by left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja; he scored two boundaries in his 26 ball knock.
There was more disappointment in store for local fans when youngster Chamara Kapugedera was bowled by Jadeja for a mere 10 runs off 28 balls.
The Sri Lankan batting effort was stabilized by a resolute partnership for the 8th wicket between spinner Suraj Randiv and Nuwan Kulasekara. The two bowlers put a prize against their wicket ensuring that they take their team to at least a fighting total.
Their partnership ended after an addition of 39 runs, when Kulasekara edged a ball from seamer Ishant Sharma and was caught behind by the Indian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028.
Lasith Malinga joined Randiv and attempted some big shot at the f*g end of the innings, however, he succeeded in hitting a single boundary only falling for 5 runs, and he was stumped by Dhoni off Ojha.
The Sri Lankans were folded for a total of 170 runs; with Randiv the last man to go for 43.
Ojha claimed three wickets for the Indians, who face a tricky chase under lights especially if the ball swings in the evening.
The visiting batsmen were low on confidence after being rolled over for 88 runs in the opening match of the tournament against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
