Cricket Update: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, tri-series, 2nd ODI, Dambulla- Malinga and Mathews dismiss New Zealand at 192
Kumar Sangakkara believes the black cap’s to be a much disciplined side. Which is surely an attribute other teams should pick up from them. Even though the visitors lack big names of the other two teams in the tournament but they started off with a crushing victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, it would now be interesting to see what their game plan is.
Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 Mendis. Rest of the team is the same as the last match.
The black cap’s had a steady start till Lasith Malinga surprised the opener with a delivery pitched around middle and leg and shaped away a touch. The ball flew off the leading edge to backward point. Enabling Malinga to celebrate his 100th ODI wicket! Nice little moment for the steamy fast bowler. Angelo Mathews getting the batsman dead plumb on 47/2, succeeding to another duck of Kane Williamson, who ended up chasing the wrong ball and edging one to the first slip fielder. Scott Styris with Watling tried to stabilize the ship by playing sensibly. Soon after the 15th over mark, the Sri Lankan brought both spinners to slow things down for the black caps.
By the 20th over the visitors had maintained a decent run rate of 4.37 run per over. Surprisingly by the 20th over mark, the hosts had bowled 3 maiden overs. Styris fails to play a nicely flighted loopy delivery that turns away from the off the stump. Yet another catch to the first slip fielder at 99/4. Watling joining his senior fellow player after a clever bowling change being paid off at 101/5. Bringing the visitors at 111/5 in just the 26th over.
New Zealand got through a tough examination of seam and swing, but lost wickets in pairs to relatively innocuous stuff, losing the advantage of having won the toss. Angelo Mathews was the right man at the right place, removing Taylor and Williamson in the 11th over, and then getting the debut half-centurion Watling with his first delivery back. Watling and Styris got about with the rebuilding well. There was a lovely straight punch off Mathews; there was also the beautiful straight loft off Rangana Herath, both from Watling, the second one bringing up his fifty. Soon after, though, Styris, who had played solidly in the 52-run fourth-wicket partnership, edged a sharp off break from Herath, who extracted appreciable turn from the pitch. For the kiwis Watling innings of 55 from 68 balls on debut and McCullum, who gave the visitors some hope at the end of the kiwi innings with his 36runs.
Leading to a third umpire decision of Gareth Hopkins, who played one straight to the fielder on Malinga’s bowling. Daryl Tuffey cleaned bowled first delivery up at 123/7. The black caps are in serious trouble at the end of the 30th over. Even thought the steamy fast swinging Malinga missed an opportunity of a Hat-trick. However, was flying in Yorkers, and was troubling the visiting batsmen throughout the innings.
Both fast bowlers enjoyed troubling the batsmen throughout the match. Malinga took 3 wickets and Mathew’s figures were 3/36. Herath the young spinner also bowled extremely well for his 2/35. Mendis took just 1/42. A wicket for the opening seam bowler as well. With 22 extra’s given away by the hosts, the black cap’s were kept on the back foot throughout the match with some excellent fast and swing bowling. As the hosts were dismantling the visitor’s top order, the crowd loved each and every single bit of it. Sri Lankan’s have won 9 games out of 10 at home, since 1992 from the kiwis. It is yet to see how the hosts will go about this score against the disciplined kiwi bowling attack. They need 192run at 3.98 runs per over.
