Surrey blew away Gloucestershire by 6 wickets in a one sided match in the Friends Provident T-20 at County Ground, Bristol. Surrey after winning the toss chose to field and Restricted Gloucestershire to 147 for 9 in 20 overs, while in reply Surrey just thrashed the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brown-c48671 and Simon Davies the 2 openers destroyed the Gloucestershire bowling line up and won the match pretty much on their own.
After being sent to bat, Gloucestershire opened the batting with 2 foreign imports, William Porterfield from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 came out to bat. Redmond was dismissed in the 2nd over; he was caught behind off the bowling of Chris Tremlet for just 9 runs from 6 balls with 2 fours.
Porterfield and Andrew Gidman put up 24 runs for the 2nd wicket, Gidman was the next to go. He was 2nd victim for England’s test bowler Tremlet who trapped him LBW after scoring 15 runs from 12 balls, with one four and a six.
The 2nd kiwi in the team James Franklin came in next and added some good runs alongside Porterfield. The pair added 53 runs in 5 overs at almost 10 runs per over. Gloucestershire innings looked to have got a good platform to launch in the final overs.
Things though kind of fell away in the middle order; Porterfield was dismissed after scoring 37 runs from 34 balls with 4 fours and a six. He was caught by Hamilton Brown off the bowling of Schofield. Next man in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 did not last too long and was caught by Lancesfield off the bowling of Spriegel, Taylor scored just 1 run from 2 balls.
The slide continued and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Dent-c1241 also managed just one run from 3 balls, he was cleaned up by Schofield for his 2nd wicket. It was a hat trick of players scoring 1 run when Smell was caught behind off the bowling of former South African test bowler Andre Nel. Franklin who was looking in good form was looking in disgust, as the whole middle order just fell like a pack of cards.
Dawson at number 8 finally gave some support to Franklin and the pair added just 17 before Franklin was also sent back, he was run out by a direct throw from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wilson-c98046 in an effort to get back the strike on the final ball of 16th over.
Dawson scored 24 valuable runs as Gloucestershire ended their innings at 147 for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Considering there was not much swing in the pitch, Surrey looked more than confident of getting the total. Hamilton Brown and Simon Davies opened the innings for Surrey and tore into the Gloucestershire bowlers. Hamilton started lifting the ball over the circle from the very first over. Davies was not far behind and advanced down the wicket several times to the new ball.
The pair showed no mercy to the bowlers and continued to dispatch them to all corners of the ground. Davies typically favoured the long on long off region and hit 4 sixes on his way to fastest 50 of his T-20 career. Hamilton though fell short by 2 runs and was dismissed by Dawson for 48 from 30 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Davies continued to pile on runs but there was a flurry of wickets in the middle with Roy and Symonds falling in quick succession. Davies was dismissed for 73 runs from 30 balls with 7 fours and 4 big sixes.
Surrey got to the total in just 11. 5 overs and Davies was named man of the match for his blistering 73 runs.
