Cricket Update: Tamim Iqbal’s left wrist surgery a success- Shahriar recalled to Bangladesh squad for NZ Series

The ninety minutes surgery performed by Dr. Greg Hoy, an orthopaedic surgeon, involved the removal of bone fragments from base of the third metacarpal of Tamim’s left hand. Success of this surgery was confirmed by Bangladesh cricket team’s physio, Michael Henry, who revealed that the recovery could take around two months but that a final time frame would be announced after the team management receives a detailed update from Dr. Hoy.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had last month decided to send Tamim to Australia for a medical examination as he had been facing protracted pain in his left wrist following an injury. "We have decided to send him to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 for a check-up. With this, he will at least be mentally satisfied," Enayet Hossain Siraj, a BCB official, had told reporters at that time. "We took the decision after discussing the matter with our physio (Michael Henry)."
Tamim first suffered the injury on 5th November 2009 during an ODI match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in Chittagong. A hairline fracture was revealed by the subsequent scans and the player was advised against batting during practice sessions or matches but Tamim continued batting. The injury was further aggravated when Tamim fought the pain barrier to play a Test against England at Lord’s.
Meanwhile, Tamim's absence has earned http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in June 2008, has so far played 60 ODIs and has scored 1857 runs, including four hundreds and ten fifties, at an average exceeding 33. The left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo has also been included in the 14-member squad.
Mohammad Ashraful failed to earn a place in the squad following his poor form while Saghir Hossain, Faisal Hossain and Syed Rasel are the other names that although toured England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 this summer but would miss out the home series against Kiwis. The Bangladesh training camp would start from 15th September 2010 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. The series’ all five matches will be hosted in Mirpur from 5-17 October 2010.
