Cricket Update: WICB regional one-day tournament: Day 4 roundup
On the fourth day of the WICB regional one-day tournament, Barbados scripted a place in the semi-final of the domestic event, while
Rain scuppered an interesting clash between Leeward Islands and Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC).
151-run hammering of Guyana at the hands of Barbados at Sabina Park, Kingston bagged the latter a place into the semis of the tournament. Half-centuries of Dale Richard and Jonathan Carter were well complimented by the clinical bowling
from Tino Best, who scythed through the top order of opposition line-up to complete his maiden List A five-wicket haul as the listless Guyana was rolled over for only 100 in reply of Barbados’ competitive 251.
Tino Best finished with his career best figures of five for 24 from five overs followed by Ryan Hinds’ 3 for 34 while Suleiman Benn returned with two for 19 from six overs. The opening three overs of Best’s five-over spell saw him
claiming four scalps including skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan’s big wicket as well, as Guyana faltered to 6 for 4. Fast Bowler Best’s assault was then completed by the left-arm spin pair of Sulieman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Benn-c47745 and Ryan Hinds, who then picked up five wickets while bowling
in tandem to complete Guyana’s desolation.
Earlier Devendra Bishoo, the Guyana leg-spinner, went one better than http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tino-Best-c2682 finishing with 6 for 36 but lacked support from rest of the attack. Though Bishoo triggered a late crumple, bringing opposition line up from 221 for 3
to 251 all out, but belligerent knocks from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Richards and Jonathan Carter had already mustered enough runs for Barbados.
The second match of the day, played between Leeward Islands and Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) at the Kensington Park, Jamaica was ruined by the rain with both the sides sharing two points apiece. HPC had lost two early wickets
in their run-chase following a gettable 50-overs total of 168 set by of Leeward Islands before the game was abandoned in the 8th over.
After winning the toss, HPC’s skipper Sharmarh Brooks put Leeward Islands in to bat favouring his attack on a damp wicket in dull and cool conditions. The bowlers justified Brooks’ decision to bowl coming hard on Leeward’s line-up picking up its last eight
wickets conceding only 64 runs as the side collapsed from a daunting 104 for 2 to 168 all out. Leg-spinner Nkruma Bonner led the bowling department of Sagicor High Performance Centre, claiming 3 for 21 from his spell of five overs.
The new ball pair of Leeward Islands, Lionel Baker and Gavin Tonge, replied well by tumbling HPC to 21-2 in the eighth over, but heavy showers intervened at that point and the umpires had to call off what was anticipated to be an interesting
clash.
Earlier the umpires had halted the match after game of six overs because the pitch was deemed to be dangerous. The play was resumed after rolling over the track. The Leeward skipper, Wilden Cornwall opened later on that the track right
in the morning and not even the outfield was fit for play.
Cornwall said that he has been disappointed by the wash out of the game as the tournament is the elite event for the Caribbean and it is next to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket.
