Cricket Update: Waqar Younis condemns the PCB’s delay in announcing the captain
Criticising the issue of captaincy, Pakistan’s coach Waqar Younis like many other people has expressed his shock over the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to delay picking the name of captain for the ICC World Cup 2011 even after announcing the 15-man squad.
"This is also surprising to me. I don't know what reasons the board could have for delaying naming the captain but personally I feel it would have been better to announce the captain along with the World Cup team," Waqar told to media from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864.
The PCB on Tuesday has declared the name of final 15 players ahead of the mega event but still remained indecisive over choosing the captain. There has been a contradiction among the officials in selecting one between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 and Misbah-ul-Haq.
When Waqar was asked to give a clue regarding the better choice to lead Pakistan in the World Cup, the coach avoided the answer and said that he was not in a position to give any opinion even as a layman.
While condemning the board’s action Waqar said that the declaration of captain should have been along with the announcement of the final squad. He while quoting the example of other teams added that the delay in deciding the captain for Pakistani team would
only raise the issues.

performance on and off the field. As a captain, he deserves a lot of credit the way he coped with the team issues and players, besides his own personal contribution as a player as well.
Waqar also said that though Pakistan has won the Test series but upcoming six-match one-day series against New Zealand would be a tough challenge.
"How we perform against New Zealand in the one-dayers will basically decide our tone for the World Cup. It will give a clear indication of how we are going to perform at the mega event," said Waqar,
The legendry fast bowler also added that he has always supported youngsters in the Twenty20 and one-day teams. He said that the inclusion of Ahmed Shahzad, Asad Shafiq and Umar Akmal in the team of World Cup was the right decision taken by board. He viewed
that the experienced players are mostly needed in Tests while in Twenty20s and ODIs, young players add freshness to the team.
