Cricket Update: Warwickshire beat Leicestershire by 8 runs
Warwickshire beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 to 137 in the allotted 20 overs, but it was the batting that let them down, as they could only muster 129 for the loss of 6 wickets and fell short by 8 runs in the end.
Jonathan Trott, who has been having a fantastic season for club and country, opened the batting with Carter. The law of averages though finally caught up with Trott and he fell for just 2 runs he was out LBW to the off spin of Australian Brad Hodge.
Carter though did look in good nick but was cleaned up by the former England test bowler Mathew Hoggard, after scoring 21 runs from 20 balls with 4 fours.
Barker has also been in good form for Warwickshire and did play some good strokes at the start of his innings. Toughton and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Barker-c47300 put on a good partnership for the 3rd wicket and scored 27 runs. Barker was dismissed for 20 runs from 19 balls with 3 fours; he was stumped down the leg side by Nixon off the bowling of Hodge for his 2nd wicket.
Darren Maddy, one of the most seasoned players on the county cricket circuit was in next and alongside Troughton added some quick runs.
Troughton was sent back after scoring 26 runs from 25 balls with 2 fours, he was bowled by Benning.
Darre Maddy then struggled to get any form of partnership going as wicket started falling thick and fast from the other end.
Ricky http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 only scored 3 runs from 8 balls; he was bowled by South African Calude Henderson. Next man in, Ambrose the wicketkeeper also went for just one run; he was also knocked over by Henderson. Woakes finally gave some support to Maddy and the two added 26 runs for the 7th wicket. Maddy went on the attack and got couple of good sixes away in the final overs.
Warwickshire ended their innings at 137 for the loss of 7 wickets, Darren Maddy was unbeaten at 41 from 29 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes.
There was plenty of encouragement for the bowlers from the pitch and the target although a modest one was still going to challenge the home side. The start did not do them any favours Du Toit was LBW to Woakes in the first over for just 2 runs.

At 46 for 3 in 8 overs Leicestershire were still not in a very bad shape, Nixon and Tayor resurrected the innings to some degree and added 29 runs for the 4th wicket. Due to the moving ball, the scoring rate remained on the slow side.
Nixon was dismissed after scoring 12 runs from 18 balls; he was caught by Woakes off the bowling of Maddy. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 continued to fight but in an effort to lift the run rate slashed at one and nicked one to the keeper after scoring 29 runs.
White was soon picked up by Barker and Warwickshire were on top with Leicestershire at 96 for 6 at the end of 17th over. 36 runs were needed from the last 3 overs. However, Leicestershire fell short by 8 runs in the end. Woakes was named man of the match for his spell of 4 overs 16 runs and 2 wickets.
