Cricket Update: Warwickshire beat Yorkshire by 14 runs, Barker man of the match
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 in Friends Provident T-20, Warwickshire batted first and after a decent start, their innings fell away in the middle and they could only put up a score of 145. The target was although modest but considering the capable balling attack of opposition, Yorkshire had their work cut out for them. They gave it a good go but it was the same story lower middle order collapsed and they were short by 14 runs in the end.
Yorkshire, who mostly prefers to chase down the targets won the toss and once again chose to bowl first. Warwickshire got off to a solid start and the openers, Trott and Carter put on 44 runs for the first wicket. Jonathan Trott, fresh from his hundred against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the final ODI looked in good nick. The stylish right hander showed his typical off drives and carved up couple of nice boundaries in early overs. Carter on the other end was not far behind and even though the new ball was doing a bit the pair played with authority and continued to get regular boundaries.
Carter was the first one to go; he was cleaned up by Patterson after scoring 27 from 21 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes.
Trott followed soon after Wainwright caught him off his own bowling, as Trott tried to flick one to the led side and got a leading edge. He scored 19 runs from 16 balls with 3 fours.
The middle order for Warwickshire just was not able to withstand the consistent line and length of Yorkshire bowlers and wickets kept coming thick and fast.
Captain Troughton was next to go, he was caught by Australian Mckay off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-c84058 for just 3 runs.
5 runs later it was Darren Maddy the aggressive right hander slashed hard at one and was caught in the covers, South African Herschel http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 took his catch off the bowling off Wainwright, he scored just 3 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 then put on 18 runs but Ambrose managed just 3 of those and was out LBW to Patterson.
Ricky Clarke finally held up one end and after the loss of Botha for 2, Clarke and Woakes put on 30 runs for the 8th wicket. Clarke was dismissed after scoring 39 runs and Warwickshire finished the innings at 145 for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Yorkshire may have fancied the target but the start was less than ideal, Gale was out in the 2nd over after scoring just one run, he was caught by Botha off the bowling of Carter.
Lyth and Gibbs put on a good 2nd wicket stand and took the score to 41, which is when Gibbs was bowled by Barker after scoring 15 runs from 8 balls with 3 boundaries.
Next man in was another South African, the forgotten left hander Jaque Rudolph, he started timing the ball right from the start and was looking good.
Lyth though fell soon after, he was out hit wicket, as he knocked back his stumps while playing a pull shot off Piolet, he scored 31 runs from 25 balls with 3 fours and a six.
Moreover, just like Warwickshire the middle order fell apart, Bairshow went for just 6 runs followed by Brophy for 4, and Rashid also only managed 4 runs.
Rudolph was the only hope for Yorkshire and he also was dismissed after scoring 27 runs, barker ripped through the last 3 batsmen to claim 4 wickets in the match.
Yorkshire were all out for 131 in the final over, Warwickshire won the match by 14 runs and Barker was named man of the match.
