Cricket Update: Yousaf and Tanvir Excluded As Pakistan Announce the Squad for ICC World Cup 2011
Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee has announced the final squad for the ICC World Cup 2011 which is going to kick off from next month. However, the surprising factor is that PCB has not announced any captain or vice captain for the mega event,
which means that Shahid Afridi would still have butterflies in his stomach.
The only other major surprise has been the exclusion of Mohammad Yousaf from the squad as it was expected that he might get the nod for the world cup in place of either Asad Shafiq or Ahmed Shehzad. Fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed has also been dropped from the
15-Men squad.
Pakistan would be having the services of two specialist openers in shape of Mohammad Hafeez and Ahmed Shehzad but the former is most likely to open the innings with Kamran Akmal. Younis Khan’s comeback in the 50-overs format has definitely strengthened Pakistan’s
middle order in the absence of Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Yousaf. Now the onus would be on Misbah ul Haq, Umar Akmal and Asad Shafiq to help Pakistan score big runs in the mega event.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 have included 2 specialist openers, 4 middle order batsmen, 1 wicketkeeper, 2 specialist spinners, 4 fast bowlers and 2 all-rounders in their squad for the ICC World Cup 2011.
Pakistan cricket has been badly hurt after the spot-fixing controversy as it has lost some of its major players like Muhammad Aamir, Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt. Former Pakistan captain, Shoaib Malik also failed to get the clearance from PCB’s Integrity
Committee and as a result, he was not considered for the mega event. However, ICC has cleared that the suspended trio can take part in the World Cup if they are found innocent on 5th of February 2011.
So considering the whole situation, it is quite a balanced squad selected from the best available pool of players. Pakistan’s final squad for the ICC World Cup 2011 is as below:
1. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 2. Misbah ul Haq 3. Mohammad Hafeez 4. Kamran Akmal 5. Younis Khan 6. Asad Shafiq 7. Umar Akmal 8. Abdul Razzaq 9. Abdul Rehman 10. Saeed Ajmal 11. Shoaib Akhtar 12. Umar Gul 13. Wahab Riaz 14. Sohail Tanveer 15. Ahmed Shahzad
