Cricket Update: Zimbabwe end Bangladesh’s winning streak and lead the five match series 1-0
Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh in a close encounter on Wednesday. The defeat ended a winning streak for Bangladesh. It was definitely an upset defeat as Bangladesh was in spectacular form in the recent times. The Bangladesh captain Shakib-Al-Hasan won the toss
and elected to field. Zimbabwe posted a modest total of 209 after they were put into bat. The openers started the innings positively but it was spin that dominated the entire match. As soon as the spinners were introduced, wickets started to fall at regular
intervals. Bangladesh started the innings slowly by keeping the wickets in tact. It was again the spinners that came into play and Bangladesh was defeated by a small margin of nine runs in a close encounter.
After being put into bat, the Zimbabwe openers Brendan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917 and Shafi-Ul-Islam gave away some runs. The Zimbabawe openers laid a solid 50 run opening
stand before the spinner Abdur Razzak came into bowl and removed both the openers. Things went on to be difficult from then onwards. The spinners didn’t bowl too many loose deliveries and kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Regis Chakabva played a steady innings to make sure that Zimbabwe had some total to defend. He was the top scorer with 45 runs off 85 balls. He was well supported by Craig Ervine who also managed to score 41 runs for his team off 59 balls. The Zimbabwe team
was all out on 209 in 49 overs. For Bangladesh, spinner Abdur Razzak was the pick of the bowlers claiming four wickets in his ten overs for 41 runs. He was well supported by other spinners http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahmudullah-c1877 and Suhrawadi Shuvo who took two wickets each.
The Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Keyes started the Bangladesh Innings decently before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747
in trouble. Bnagladesh had lost six wickets for 116 runs in 31.5 overs. It was the captain of the Bangladesh team Shakib-Al-Hasan who scored 63 of 65 balls, almost run a ball innings which made things a bit difficult for the Zimbabwe bowlers. The brilliance
of Shakib almost guided the host team to a victory but Shakib got out in the 48th over to Mpofu and that determined the fate of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh team also got out in 49 overs just as the Zimbabwe team got out with one over remaining.
Chris Mpofu was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets for just 25 runs in his nine overs. He was well supported by Ray price who also grabbed a couple of wickets. Bangladesh had four run outs in their innings which at the end of the day cost
them the match. Chris Mpofu was named man of the match for his brilliant bowling.
Zimbabwe leads the five match series 1-0. Bangladesh will look to fight back in the coming matches. It would be disappointing for the Bangladesh team to loose this match after having won their series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 4-0. Zimbabwe on the other hand would
be high in confidence and this series would be very crucial for their preparation for the 2011 World cup.
All in all, it was a fantastic game of cricket but the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 team held the nerves and managed a good result for themselves. The bowlers were well supported by the fielders. Bangladesh will be looking to improve on its running between the wickets. Some
other senior players will also be looking forward to put in an effort to win the next matches for their team.
