Hey all, I require some help with my batting. Firstly I need some help with coming onto the front foot. How and when do I play a front foot drive? And how do I move fowards to defend? Also, how can I get my top hand to play the shots rather than using my bottom hand and hitting in the air? Thanks guys and gals!

  1. Your best bet would be to see a cricket couch as a largw majority of people here don't actually play cricket, luckily for you i do

To play on the front foot you have to do what every couch will tell you, get your foot to the pitch of the ball and this will enable you to play the line og the ball. Playing on the front foot is also a matter of timing. the way i practice is to throw a ball agaisnt a wall and hit it back. eventually you will get the timing better and better until it's like instinct. Or if you have a mate get him to do throw downs and play of the front foot

Just quickly, with defend on the front foot make sure there is no significant gap between bat and pad as if you pick the line of the ball wrong then its bye bye to the wooden stacks behind you

As i said you're best bet would be a couch

  2. well from myu point of view, i dont hit str8 drives, i cant remember the last time i scored a 4 str8. However im gr8 at scoring everywhere else. Cover drives r my specialty. Getting on the front foot is getting ur foot to the pitch of the ball, making sure ur body weight is in the direction u wanna hit the ball and important thing is get ur hea over the ball, then ur top hand will kick in and u wont hit it aerial. Key component in my book is head postion, ur head goes in the right direction, generally the foot will follow. Playing defensively watch the ball. get bat close to pad and get in line with it.

My final tip and the most crucial element for me is confidence, back ur ability, confidence i kno makes a batsman it did for me. Practice with throw downs from a m8. Good luck

  3. First of all, u must practice a step at a time.

First - How and when do I play a front foot drive?

    Watch the cric ball.

    Keep ur head still.

Step toward the crease or line.

Transfer weight onto the front foot.

Don't grip ur bat too tightly as this will cause the ball to bounce to rebound to a wk or silly slip.

2nd - how do I move fowards to defend?

The shot is played in line with the front leg, & just as impact is about to be made, ur bat will turn slightly, causing the ball to run off into the fine leg area.

On other words - Turn ur bat slightly just before the ball hits it.

  4. Firstly you  need a good coach or you should join a cricket academy.

You should also practice in your home and play cricket matches at your school level.
