Cricket fans outraged at limited number of tickets for World Cup final in Wankhede, Mumbai
Cricket fans in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 have been left frustrated to know that only 4000 tickets are available through online and window sales for the ICC World Cup final to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 2 April.
Cricket enthusiasts in India have been outraged by the limited number of tickets on offer, and have blamed the organisers for not hosting the match at a larger stadium.
Bharat Singh, a media professional and cricket fanatic expressed his dissatisfaction, “I am very much disappointed…ICC could have organised the final at some other place like D Y Patil Stadium, which is considered the best cricket facility in the country and has bigger capacity.”
“It is very unfair for a cricket enthusiast. They should have taken some measures to ensure that many more tickets were available to the common public,” another cricket devotee commented.
The director for the tournament, Professor Ratnakar Shetty told the media that 28,000 out of the total 32,000 tickets are reserved because of certain contracts. The remaining 4,000 tickets will be directly sold to the public. Shetty, who is also the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) treasurer, said that nearly 8,000 tickets have been given to the International Cricket Council (ICC), while around 20,000 have been handed over to MCA and its numerous allied clubs and gymkhanas.
This allocation of tickets has been greatly criticised and left cricket-lovers bitterly annoyed.
Abdullah Siddique, a cricket enthusiast said “It seems the World Cup is being played for the members of the elitist ICC and the various governing body members who control the associations and stadiums. Why make a mockery of the general public, by staging the match in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, if you don`t want to allow the general Mumbai public into the stadium.”
The World Cup has returned to the Indian Subcontinent after 15 years and a huge demand for tickets was expected. The followers of the game in Mumbai have waited for a long time for an opportunity to watch the final in their city, but only a handful of them will actually get to see the match live in the stadium.
ICC Chief Executive, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, said that the Central organising committee was aware that there will be a huge demand for tickets and knew that it will be impossible to satisfy fans. But he said that every measure has been taken to pacify them and the tickets were also made available online just for this purpose.
