Cricket is about team, not individuals, says Anil Kumble – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737, the former Indian skipper, believes that cricket is all about the team and not individuals. The legendary leg-spinner also praised the performances of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the fifth season of the Indian
Premier League (IPL).
KKR had four bad seasons of the league before raising their game in the fifth edition to lift the trophy. The most fascinating thing about Kolkata was the kind of team spirit and combination they showed throughout the season.
Apart from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869, there were no big performers for the team this year but every player contributed whenever the franchise needed them to deliver the goods in crunch situations.
Kumble praised the leadership abilities of Gambhir and feels that the left-handed batsman showed his team the right direction and got the best out of each player. India’s leading wicket-taker in Test cricket is impressed with the communication skills of
the Delhi-born batsman.
"With no superstars in the team (KKR), and everyone irrespective of nationality and pedigree chipping in, they played as a cohesive unit all through to win the trophy. What was particularly heartening was the repeated reiteration of this unified approach
by their captain in all his media interactions," Kumble mentioned while praising KKR.
The former leg-spinner is the mentor of Royal Challengers Bangalore but his team could not qualify for the play-offs of the recently concluded tournament.
Kumble further added that CSK has proved once again that they are the best team of the league as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 and company struggled throughout the event but made it count in the crucial fixtures of the fifth season. CSK had to depend on the results
of other teams and the net run-rate to make it to the last four after the league stage.
The former Indian captain added, "Champion teams stand up in the big occasions and be counted. The IPL V gave ample evidence of this, where we saw the team that struggled through the league stages take full advantage of their fortuitous entry into the play-offs
and storm into the finals."
