Cricket news – Pakistani Fawad Alam focusing on 2011 World Cup
Fawad Alam, who got his name included in the limited-overs squad of Pakistan against England announced yesterday, is eyeing at the 2011 World Cup and is eager to prop up his place for the quadrennial event next year.

"I have faith in my ability. I hope that the selectors give me the opportunity to deliver. I hope I get a chance to play in the Twenty20 matches and the one-day series [in England], especially as the World Cup is nearly six months away,” said the middle order batsman of Pakistan.
Born on 8th October 1985 in Karachi, Fawad Alam is a left-handed cricketer who plays for Pakistan at the international arena. Primarily he is a lefty batsman and also bowls slow left-arm orthodox. Alam’s father Tariq had a long, prolific career in Pakistan’s first class cricket.
Fawad, who made his first class debut at the age of 17, played for Karachi and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-Customs-c830. His impressive first class performance earned him a place in the U-19 World Cup squad of Pakistan, which Pakistan had won. Fawad’s 2006/07 domestic season would always remain a sweet memory for him. He finished the Quaid-e-Azam trophy as fifth highest run scorer. His five-wicket haul in the final of T20 Cup earned him man-of-the-match title. He was also declared as man of the series, best batsman and best bowler of the tournament.

Alam, who has played 17 One Day Internationals for Pakistan, thinks that this is the high time to prove his mettle, as the preparations for the premier one-day competition are now in full swing. He said that he will make sure that he can perform well whenever he is given an opportunity.
At the end of the two-match T20 series against Kangaroos at Edgbaston, England, 24-years old Alam decided to play Club Cricket. For that purpose he signed a contract with Woodhall Spa in the ECB Premier League. Taking about his decision of playing Club Cricket, emerging Pakistani cricketer said that he could have gone back to home but he had felt that staying in England to play some club cricket would be more beneficial for him.
Fawad Alam, who had consistently scored in the ECB Premier League taking wickets as well, has shown his gratefulness to Woodhall Spa for giving him the opportunity to play English club cricket. Alam said that playing club cricket has given him worthwhile match practice. Fawad Alam, who averages above 40, enjoyed his time in the ECB Premier League and took it as an opportunity to work upon some technical issues and a chance to maintain his levels of fitness as well. “Sometimes, away from the hustle and bustle of international and first-class cricket, you can work on issues that you feel you need to work on, which is what I have done.”
