Cricket revival in Pakistan is related to ties with India: Jalalud Din – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistani Test bowler, Jalalud Din, is of the view that the key to bringing about a revival of international cricket in Pakistan lies in the country’s relations with neighbours http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
“Cricket revival, I believe, is related to India because they are the super powers,” he said. “PCB must form a team of players and diplomats and send it to various countries in order to convince them to tour.”
He also went on to blame http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, saying that owing to poor governance ““our relationship with other countries worsened and we are paying for that.”
The security situation in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has acted as a major deterrent to foreign teams, with the country not having hosted a single international cricket event since 2009, when the visiting Sri Lankan team became the target of a terrorist attack.
The incident, which left several players injured and civilians dead, brought about an end of international cricket in the country, and the Pakistan Cricket Board was forced to host home series in neutral venues such as the UAE (where Pakistan hosted http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013
earlier this year) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Cricket Board, for proposed tours of Pakistan, have also been unsuccessful.
Another invitation was recently issued to the Canadian cricket team, but the board’s chairman, Doug Hannum was quick to clarify to the media that it was merely a “potential tour” and no formal talks had been held.
In addition to convincing foreign teams to tour Pakistan, the PCB have also been focusing on the resumption of bilateral cricketing ties with neighbours and arch-rivals India. Sporting ties between both countries have been in a deadlock since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820
terrorist attacks in 2008, after which diplomatic relations between the two countries also came to a standstill.
The last bilateral series between the two countries was played in November 2007, when Pakistan toured India for an ODI series which the visitors lost, 2-3.
However, the PCB’s repeated attempts to bring about a revival of the cricketing relations between the two countries have been repeatedly rebuffed by the BCCI, leading Chairman Zaka Ashraf to conclude that any efforts made on his part were useless.
