Cricket super 14?

Question

With all the new T20 leagues popping up around the cricketing world, I had an idea for southern hemisphere teams... why not create a cricketing version of the rugby super 14? With six teams from AUS and SA, and two from NZ, they could create a league that, while not necessarily competing with the IPL, would provide greater grassroots interest in the sport in all the countries involved, giving homegrown talent the chance to play for large sums of money while rubbing shoulders with Ponting, Kallis and the like. What do you think?

I don't think it would work.

There is not enough money in the 3 countries to start a league like that and with the amount of cricket going on there would be no space for it in the schedule. Even in rugby there's signs of change because of lack of finance.

It sounds like a good idea to me, but you know who wont be pleased that they aren't in it.lol

I like the idea but I think that it would come down to financing it. With all the salaries, admin, travel and other team expenses it would be a very expensive comp to run.  I guess the organiser would like to be fairly sure that there was a good return in it for them.  Typically. nowadays, instance Australian crowds don't support provincial cricket so if that were to continue such a comp would have trouble surviving.

Its a good idea but i don't really think that the ICC has a position avaliable for another cricket tournament!! I think the IPL was enough but now with the EPL - there's no way that another cricket tournament should be there!! Its too tempting for the players to retire early for their countries and play just in the tournaments!!

I think it is  a good idea.  Top cricketing country board should sit together and chalk out action plan for developing this in the interest of viewers and the players to perform better in international arena
