Cricket update - WICB appoints Courtney Browne as West Indies selector
Courtney Browne, former wicketkeeper of West Indies got the approval of West Indies Cricket Board to be a part of the selection panel of West Indies Cricket. The approval was given in the last meeting of the board of directors in St Lucia.
Earlier the review committee had recommended Courtney Browne for the membership of selection panel after the 2-years tenure of the previous three-member selection panel expired on 31st July. The four-member review committee featuring Chief Cricket Operations Officer Tony Howard, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joel-Garner-c67141, Ernest Hilaire and Clive Lloyd interviewed several other candidates as well before forwarding Browne’s name to the board of directors. The former wicketkeeper will replace Raphick Jumadeen, former West Indian spinner, while Robert Haynes and Clyde Butts have been reappointed for the next term of two years.
Chairman Clyde Butts thanked the West Indies Cricket Board for showing its confidence over his performance by reappointing him for the next term and extended a warm welcome to Courtney Browne. He said that he is expecting a team effort from Browne, Robert and the head coach Ottis Gibson to continue on a restructuring pathway.
"I'm pleased to be reappointed chairman of the selection panel and I am confident that we will work closely as a group as we continue on a restructuring pathway." said Butts.

The time when Browne though his career had ended; he got a surprise call for the ICC Champions Trophy 2004 in England. His heroics performance in the final of the tournament made him first choice keeper of West Indies. The next year Browne decided to leave international cricket at the peak of his career and announced retirement for personal reasons. During his ten-year long stop-start career, Browne played 20 Tests and 46 ODIs with a top test score of 68 while his ODI best is 46 not out.
Courtney Browne said that he has been privileged by the board after giving an opportunity to serve West Indies cricket once again as an off the field member. Browne, who has been one of the first choice wicketkeepers of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, said that he has been honoured and will try to put his best foot forward.
"It is a privilege to be afforded the opportunity to serve West Indies cricket again. I feel honoured and I will put my best foot forward," Browne said.
Courtney Browne has worked with the WICB as an alternate selector on the on the previous panel along with former players Nehemiah Perry and Stuart http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034. He has also captained Barbados cricket in the domestic circuit and later became the manager of Barbados. For the past two years, the former Barbados player has been serving his home team in the capacity of chairman of the selection panel of the Barbados Cricket Association.
Unfortunately, Browne will take over the selector role of West Indies Cricket when the side is going through unanticipated lows on the field. Since 2000, the team has clinched only 18 test wins. The WICB is also preparing a selection policy document with guiding principles chalking out the action plan of board with respect to selection.
