Cricut Problems?

I just bought a Cricut and have adjusted the side scroll buttons. For some reason whenever it cuts the words out, it also tears the letters & the paper.. I've also adjusted the green k**b on the top of the needle with numbers 1-6. Any suggestions on what to do? (Btw, I've tried regular paper and cardstock)

I would make sure that the blade is sharp, the mat is sticky and after that it should be just trying to get the right balance of speed and depth (scroll buttons). Sometimes when you are trying to cut smaller details it has trouble. Try cutting out something big or simple and see if you're having the same problem.
