Crime figures?

We now have the government and the police telling us, that over the last 10 years crime has fallen by 48%. If this is true, why are the jails still full to bursting, or are they now going to set all the innocents free, now the news is out?

we have a home secretary telling us its in order for the police to turn up 3 days(possibly)after the event,,,,

you come home from hols and your house has been burgled,,,,in my experience(27yrs as a police officer)you find the house ransacked,,,and in some cases excrement everywhere,,,,you would be likley to live in this Cr*p for three days until the police turn up,,,the police have been made impotent by this goverment ,and its predecessors(maggie thatcher,state funeral,undeserved)started the rot,,,well no no it was ted Heath really,,,he excommunicated Enoch Powell,,,,,,jacqui smith needs a reality check,,walking around london(in a stab vest)with half a dozen policemen really doesnt do it for me,,does it?

the fact is the public are no longer wasting their time reporting crimes as the the police have been made impotent and really now can do nothing about anything except stop checks.reports(80pc of which have false details),,,as have the judiciary,,with goverment interference about who to jail and who not to jail,,,this NANNY state has interferred in too much

sadly random violent crime is on the rise.

you are far less likely these days to have your car broken nto but a teen living in london is more liking to get stabbed

I heard in the state of Florida, they're closing some of their prisons, not because crime is down though, some thing like the Government is laying off workers.  CNN said, 48.000

more workers are to be laid off.

The reason crime is falling is that so many criminals are in jail.

While they are in jail they can't commit vrimes.

Therefore the crime rate has fallen

This is only the crimes that have been reported to the Police. For a more realistic picture of crime, and crime hotspots, the British Crime Survey is far more accurate.

Edit- Mary d, firstly, this is a UK question, secondly,please get real, there HAVE been, and ARE innocent people in prison.

most people are in jail on drug related offences...so what crime are you talking about...violent, non violent, jay walking? Also there are no innocent people in prison....

maybe ppl cant be arsed reporting crime anymore

maybe the way crimes are recorded has been changed to exclude some crimes

maybe crimes meriting custodial sentences have increased, while petty crimes have decreased

in short, crime figures are as confusing as they are revealing
